2nd time around - even better :=) Coming back for 3rd time.
We (couple) have re-visited this hotel for the reason we loved it the first time in 2021. We loved the location, atmosphere, cuisine, and most of all the staff. The hospitality, friendliness and overall warmth is something we don’t see often and seeing faces we saw already in 2021 is a great welcome and indicator this hotel runs well. This time their offer has changed from all into half board, nevertheless we decided to go anyway (we stayed late august to mid-September). It did not disappoint; this time we were staying in one of the ‘non- sea view’ rooms – I’ll call it a bungalow-room as it is 2 room little house entity – and we loved that even more as we preferred to be bit separated from the main building. The rooms are 4- star rooms, spacious with all amenities we needed, including fridge, good airco and good bed. We again haven’t used pool areas as we prefer the sea <3 and the coast. The cleanliness (rooms, outside and in the main areas) was again impeccable, and we weren’t bothered by half board offer at all. We (again) loved this unique, stunning location of the hotel, the hospitability of the staff, the offer in (Main resto) breakfasts and dinners varied enough and we loved Mediterranean (Dalmatian / Croatian) touch offered during dinners (at least few local dishes per evening). What we also loved is tha the dinner time was less crowded as previously. We ate several times in Culinarium (paying ala-carte- with also specific theme BBQ dinners 2times per week) where the food was always delicious and servers professional and super friendly. We saw that issues, like loose tile, chipped stair, were quickly reported and dealt with and the staff was always present to assist or help. There is some wear and tear but for us on completely acceptable level. We found the prices of food very reasonable but found drinks a bit on the expensive side (comparing to bars/restos)- but still ok. I would love, if they would serve quart or half a liter of table vines, not just bottles which was not an option this year. I have also booked and joined several Yoga/ Pilates other sessions and was satisfied with the quality, and found the trainers reasonably okay, some better than others, but overall for being additional free of charge activity it was super start of the day. We loved the usability of the (Tui) Blueapp we could find all the program there and were able to get all info we needed, including booking options for all sort of activities. Slight negative- offer and cost of drinks (compared to food) and sometimes in peak time staff in the Main restaurant couldn’t handle the number of guests in a timely manner, they did seem flustered and I really felt bad for them (wasn’t often but it happened) Do have another ‘egg/grill section in the kitchen as the lines there are like they are serving free gold :D Only negative observation for last year was the standup paddle boarding activity that took place in the see that is actually allocated for swimmers – do move it away from the beach area? Rooms are really good 4- star rooms, good bed, space, airco and bathroom enough storage, silent fridge , decent TV and extra amenities (also if you miss something go to the reception) Overall cleanliness no comment – congrats for keeping this level! The grounds of the hotel -we cannot complain at all, clean, maintained (but not suitable for guests that have difficulties walking – quite steep and lots of stairs) Food even for almost 3 week stay varied enough, fresh, and of a good quality. Restaurant Culinarium great quality, beautiful location, and worth revisits! Activities – overall plenty, focus on recreation and sport, and evening entertainment – sufficient for sure! Also excursions are good value for money and variable enough to find something. Staff overall everyone (TUI reps and hotel staff) – incredible number of stars – thank you all! You make this magical! To our opinion this hotel is suited for couples who want some incredible scenery and hospitality, who want to unplug and chill in a calm environment (there is no nightclubs or night entertainment in the village so if you want to part- not the place to be), sipping good quality vine (or whatever rock your boat) and filling bellies with really decent meals. Be aware travel time from Airport to Hotel can be well over 2h (but the drive, if bus takes scenic route, is nice :d) There are 2 things that bothered me specifically - but have nothing to do with the Hotel 1) mosquitos – holy smokes – take good care if you are allergic or sensitive – they are spicy! 2) how locals treat stray cats in Makarska, Dalmatia, Croatia – as an animal lover, I really have a problem knowing the situation (I do advise you to google before coming if you are an animal lover) and the hotel staff is treating the ‘hotel’ strays well and there are few beauties having home ‘home’ on their grounds – which is great. Nevertheless, can Tui also help with this overwhelming problem? But Needless to say – See you again this summer for the 3rd time! Already booked and waiting. This year again booked all in option, as it was available. We cannot wait to visit you again! Have relaxing time AGAIN, eat super well AGAIN, swim in a clear water and recreate in gorgeous environment AGAIN and being treated so kindly and so friendly AGAIN! TY for making our holidays special AGAIN:D
Get the TUI Blues if you stay at this hotel!!! Avoid!
Stayed at this hotel in September based on expected standards of a 4 Star TUI Blu hotel and reviews on Trip Advisor. I must say people rating this hotel at 4 or 5 out of 5 must be living in a parallel universe or have low expectations. The hotel itself is dated, in need of a refurb and general overhaul. Pool areas are basic and doubts if areas around the pools are cleaned correctly. You do find drinks glasses the next morning first thing next to sun beds. We arrived after a long transfer and got allocated room 411. When we opened the door the space into the room was so narrow you struggle to get your luggage into the room. The room itself was basic, not 4 star standard with cheap furnishings many of which look like the basics IKEA range. It didn't take long for us to discover the real feature of the room. The faulty toilet. Not fawlty towers but a toilet that didn't flush. On first reporting this to the hotel we were told to use the public toilets during the night which was a joke and we found that these toilets were not cleaned all the time. The toilet broke 8 times during the stay in that room and we reported it numerous times. The hotel maintenance guys just came hit the buttons smiled at you and walked out. But this did not fix the toilet! Obvious this is an ongoing fault and the hotel is too cheap to use a plumber (Croat = Vodoinstalater). We indicated we wanted moved room but this did not happen until we complained to TUI Customer Service, This is a TUI Blue hotel! 3 days before flying home we got told there was a room to move to, only to be told at reception the room had been allocated to other guests. Then next day 2 days before we flew home we got into another room. a slightly better room but basic standard and furnishings. The restaurant and food is another area of concern and disappointment. Breakfast or dinner there are not enough tables for guests in the hotels. Nor is there enough staff in the restaurant, Finding a table most times was a challenge. In a 4 star hotel you would expect to be shown to a table. This did not happen. Tables were sometimes dirty and you had to ask to get a table cleared. During a meal your dirty dishes were not always removed and getting a drinks order took too long although when your drinks arrived you were asked to pay almost immediately. Staff in the restaurant always looked harassed and most of the time totally uncoordinated. Food in general was not a 4 star standard. Most of the food is prepared from frozen which is insulting to guests and taste was really bland. Nothing Croatian at all and really repetitive like school dinners!. Forced us to eat outside the hotel eventually in Igrane! Highlights are the bar staff are really friendly and try hard although the bar area is too small. Cleaners do a good job in keeing your room tidy and clean. Gym and instructors do a good job although the hotel gym is tired and in need of a refurb. Disappointments. Evening entertainment is dated and out of touch. And when held inside the reception area is too small for entertainments. Being asked to pay 10 euros for sunbeds on the beach in front of the hotel is insulting to guests! Igrane is nice village with a few restaurants and bars which you need to counter the disappointment of this hotel. Glad we we didn't stay for 2 weeks in this establishment which the wost hotel we have stayed in Croatia. We've had many holidays in Croatia over the years and love the country and the people and never had a bad experience such we have experienced at this hotel. We know from reading the reviews the manager will try and counter our points from this revew. This generally tries to paint a positive picture of your experienece and includes comments like all these issues will be raised in staff meetings and considered for improvements which is all complete PR rubbish! And will neve happen! COME ON TUI AND GET A GRIP. STOP RIPPING OFF GUESTS BY PASSING THIS HOTEL OFF AS TUI BLU 4 STAR HOTEL!!!
A stunning location
The positives: -the location, right on the beach, great for swimming, we did not find the stones a problem at all. So peaceful, away from the roads and ADULTS ONLY, Bliss. -the staff, really lovely, helpful people -the sauna, which is free of charge and it is switched on all day, so no need to book. We used it every day and always had it to ourselves -the buffet was good, plenty of choice, they cater for various diet requirements -yoga by the sea -we had a car, so it was easy to go to Hvar for a day, a 30 mins crossing from Drvenik, which is approx. 20 minutes drive from the hotel. We also drove to Dubrovnik for a day trip and it was really worth it -our sea view room on the top floor (the balconies on the top floor have glass balustrades) -a great night's sleep, comfortable beds and no noise after 11pm -fabulous weather in late September If we could change anything, we would like more traditional Croatian entertainment. The rice and vegetables at the restaurant were always overcooked, but we appreciate it that it is not easy to prepare perfectly cooked veg for so many people. Also, the corridors in the hotel are really basic, with drab carpets, stained in places. We had a great, truly relaxing holiday and we look forward to coming back. Thank you Tui Blue Makarska.
