Gorgeous hotel and facilities but not 5* service
Totally agree with some of the other mixed reviews on here. The hotel is gorgeous, great facilities, pool and an amazing view. But something is lacking. Our room, a deluxe sea view with plunge pool, (although cold, not 28 degrees as described) was fab, spacious with a lovely bathroom. Turndown service hit and miss - didn’t have any for 2 nights running. We ate at one of the restaurants but it was only average and there are much better places to eat within a short walking distance. Drinks, as expected expensive, no snacks and small measures in tumblers no nice glasses. The pool area is lovely but stereotypical bed saving from certain quarters very annoying. Some beds next to us were empty for 2 hours before a couple appeared picking the best spot, this was a daily occurrence and very selfish. Staff should be checking half hourly and if no one shows up I think items should be removed. We found some of the staff in the pool area quite rude and service was terribly slow, usually involving having to order and fetch yourself and when paying these sort of prices service should be paramount, at 4k for a weeks stay (B&B without flights) I expected better.
Beautiful hotel without the charm of Mediterranean hospitality
We spent five days at the Grand Park Hotel in Rovinj, Croatia. Our feelings towards this luxury establishment which comes at the respective price tag are very mixed. We therefore summarise what you can expect and what you should not expect as follows: What you can expect: Efficient and quick check in and check out with valet parking service. You will find that this is a large hotel complex with beautiful contemporary practical rooms. We really appreciated the excellent sleeping comfort, the bathroom and the unique views of the old town of Rovinj. We had our breakfast in the main restaurant which was buffet style and was excellent in respect of quality and choice. You have a great option to use the free shuttle to Katarina Island where the hotel maintains an attractive beach set up with sun loungers, bar and restaurant. The staff on Katarina Island was exceptionally good. We even got a free wine tasting to choose the bottle of our liking. What you should not expect: Almost all of the staff looks like it is a duty and not a joy to work at this hotel (with the exception of the house cleaning staff and the staff on Katarina Island). No smiles. When we were receiving the luggage, we were asked how we feel. I answered: ‘Very good – and you?’. His answer was ‘Not good, I do have to work’. Do not expect personal service. We tried to get a bottle of white wine for the poolside at 11.30am and asked four employees and got the standard answer: The bar opens at noon. No effort whatsoever to fulfil the client’s wish. Next example: We had two glasses of champagne in the bar on the 5th floor. There were five staff members working, but they were not interested to serve although the bar was - with three tables taken - not busy. We got the glasses of champagne after making our presence aware (no nibbles, just ‘very correct service’). The wonderful glass table was not cleaned and showed many finger prints of prior clientele. We were also not convinced by the lunch which we had in the main restaurant on the fourth floor. The tables of the poolside restaurant looked very used and dirty, so we decided against a visit. The pool area is congested and it was hard to find sun loungers for two in the outside area. Overall verdict is that we won’t come back. It is a beautiful hotel without the charm of Mediterranean hospitality. If you book, you are very much better off to get drinks, lunches and dinners in the nearby town. It takes only 15 minutes to walk over there and you will get the dearly missed smiles and staff who goes the extra mile for their clients.
Outstanding
We stayed at Grand Park Hotel for our anniversary and it could not have been better. You get the wow view in the lobby on arrival, the view from our room was just as good! Amazing facilities all round with the lap pool, infinity pool, spa, etc. Then the restaurants which were top notch. Easy walk to the old town, park and beaches or on the free bikes and golf buggy rides. The team at the hotel should be really proud of the atmosphere they created and everyone was super friendly. They made our anniversary extra special too with some nice touches.
