Keep looking for another hotel!
We were excited to see Croatia for the first time, this is a beautiful country, but this hotel was disappointing. First our room. The room was nice enough, no real issue here. The little fridge was big enough to store what we needed, like milk for our morning coffee and soda. The beds were big and comfortable but we could not sleep together cuz their was always some space between the two beds. The A/C made a really weird smell, like an old damp dusty smell, so me and my partner would joke that we would go in our smelly but at least cooled room. I had ordered a room with view on the park, however, what we really got was mostly view on the adjacent hotel walls, with a tiny bit of green and a slight glimpse of the sea in the distance. Had I known , I would not have paid extra for that view. Now the most important facility for us, the pool. Yes, this hotel has two pools, one inside and the other outside. However the indoor one is small, and like a sauna, hot and damp, we only walked through it but it was a disagreeable feeling. The outside one is also very small compared to the size of the hotel. There’s is only a couple beds, maybe 50(?) in total. We sometimes struggled to find a bed, some were reserved with towels but stayed empty most of the day. Such a waste of the little sun beds they have! The pool was small and not really deep, I think I recall 1.40m at its deepest ☹️ Now for the buffet. We are a couple that loves and appreciate good food. Luckily the price I paid for 9 days of diner was ridiculously low, so we didn’t loose much money because we only ate there on our very first night and never again. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. The different pizza all had the same strange lemony taste. The inside of the restaurant had a really weird smell to it. Even the fruits were not ripe, and I live in the Arctic circle so fresh, juicy fruits was something I really was looking forward to in this Mediterranean country. This hotel does quantity, not quality when it comes to food and I am the kind of person that prefers quality. The joke was that you even had to pay for water at diner… so you had to pay to drink during diner. I found that ridiculous when the tap water is drinkable. Even breakfast was not good, they had Nutella which was a bonus for me because I love it but that was that. Luckily the coffee was free and tasted okay. The fruit juice I tried was probably one of the worst I ever had, so watered down. Lastly the hotel as a whole. The location is a bit far away from anything but that really was not a problem. It was super easy to buy bus ticket at the hotel and taking the bus to the old city which was amazingly beautiful. One thing that really bothered us and made us stress a bit was the people working at the reception of the hotel. Most of the receptionists that helped us seemed very unsure of what they were doing, gave confusing/wrong information and that created moments of stress during the little vacation we had together. I would not recommend staying in this hotel as I am sure you can find something better for the price we paid, so keep looking!
Stylish hotel,superb setting
I have to make this quite a lengthy review because some of the recent comments below made me question whether we stayed in the same hotel! Pick up from the airport was very speedy and check in was efficient. We were with Jet2 and had not paid for any frills with our room but we were very pleased because it was absolutely spotless with no signs of wear and tear whatsoever ( same hotel?) and the bed was massive ( though the duvet cover was ill fitting!) Towels were white and fluffy, ( same hotel?) bathroom with bath and shower was clean as could be and the shower water pressure was excellent. The room was kept very clean during our stay and bed linen and towels were changed regularly ( same hotel?) . There is a small fridge in the room where we kept a bottle of water, bought on the first day from a local supermarket and topped up with the beautiful drinking water from the bathroom tap from then on, no need to buy more. From the outside the hotel is utilitarian in design, but inside, the public areas are spacious and very well maintained and the corridors are exceptionally wide and fully carpeted ensuring you get a good night's sleep because you don't hear your neighbours returning to their rooms. In fact there is little or no noise from other rooms at all, a first in my experience. The lobby and other public areas are quiet and cool with plenty of indoor seating, tastefully decorated and comfortable and there is a lovely, subtle perfume enhancing the public areas and corridors which made the whole hotel smell wonderful. We were on half board and really enjoyed the breakfast and evening meal option. There was nothing that wasn't provided at breakfast for every taste and dietary requirement. It was a stunning array of fruit, cheese, hot buffet, freshly baked cakes, muffins and croissants, yogurt, cereal, bread etc. Dinner was also very good and we enjoyed wine with our meal every night ( 17 HRK kn for house white) and a FREE bottle of lovely cold tap water, no problem! ( same hotel?) If the buffet was busy you only had to wait a few minutes for the freshly cooked food to be replenished. Obviously you can't please all of the people all of the time, and there were some nights where the food was better than others, but on the whole the choice was excellent, including an impressively large cheese selection. The star of the evening meal has to be the dessert table and they obviously have some very competent pastry chefs who managed to produce so many different desserts every night that you would have struggled to try every one on offer. They didn't just look good either, they all had unique tastes and flavours. Congratulations to those involved in this particular area, though my waistline suffered accordingly! Outside, the gardens and the pool area are well cared for and kept litter free. It became busier around the pool towards the end of our stay and those arriving after 10:30 a.m were finding it difficult to locate sun beds. Pool staff provide extra beds and umbrellas when asked and the grass areas around the pool are also nice for relaxing on. We were not impressed with the pool snack bar which was overpriced in our opinion. Be aware that if you are ordering "chips" with your tuna wrap you will get CRISPS! There is a pool bar( same hotel?) selling drinks beside the indoor pool. I agree with the comment in a previous review about reaching the pool area without having to negotiate steps which is a bit of a pain if you have reduced mobility. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the Lobby Bar faces west so it's a perfect spot to watch the sunset with a drink, if you can get one. And this is where the hotel really needs to pull up its socks. The service is slow to non existent and I really don't feel you should have to get up and go to the bar to get your own drinks in a hotel of this standard. It's even slow when it's not busy! Staff could be selling so many more drinks to clients if they just worked a bit more efficiently and looked around to see customers frantically waving in their direction when they are out clearing tables or wandering about aimlessly. Only Mia in the Lobby Bar was consistently good at her job (another waitress was also very good but didn't get her name). The waiters were sadly lacking in their service skills , sorry. It was the same at dinner, I don't think some staff were aware of how inefficiently they were working, picking up one plate and wandering back to the clearing area before setting off again to pick up another plate, though there were one or two obviously very experienced in their roles. Yes, we had time to sit and watch you while we were waiting for drinks service! We were pleasantly surprised at the standard of this hotel. If they would just sort out better training for waiting staff it would be almost perfect. TIPS for Guests: Beaches around here are very stony so bring reef shoes. It's also very steep to get down to the beaches, or swim in the sea off the coastal paths so not great if you have mobility issues. The two beach clubs are expensive ( Coral Beach and Copacabana) No need to bring your own towels, the hotel provides plenty around the pool and you can take them down to the beach too. There are restaurants and supermarkets nearby for snacks etc, a short walk from the hotel. ( I recommend Piramida in the little shopping mall) Highly recommend walking the coastal paths in either direction towards Dubrovnik town. Buy bus tickets in the little hotel shop to save Kunas for your bus trip into Dubrovnik. Bring plenty of money, things are expensive! Get a room with a balcony otherwise there is nowhere to dry off your swimming gear TIPS for hotel: Train your waiting staff to a higher standard please. New pillows ( ours were very squishy though not uncomfortable but needed renewing!) I realise conferences are a big earner for hotels but perhaps set out stricter ground rules for groups of clients intent on getting drunk on their business trips and spoiling things for other guests?
Great hotel to get great vacation
Hotel is very well located 5 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from Dubrovnik old city by bus which is located just in the front of the hotel. View is amazing, perfect cleaning, buffets are varies, 2 large swimming pools and staff is very kind and efficient. Jasna, Maria, and Marco have been very helpful.
