Madrid – Weather
There’s a reason people head to Spain for sunshine and its capital city, Madrid, is no exception. With Madrid weather known for its year-round sunshine and a mainly dry climate, the city’s a great place to visit if you’re a fan of hot sunny days, culture and good food.
Visit in spring or autumn
The weather in Madrid is mostly dry and warm, but winters here can be fairly cold, so make sure you pack some layers and a scarf if you’re planning your trip between November and February. The best time to visit is definitely spring or autumn when the weather is warm but not too hot for sightseeing, and there’s very little rainfall. Take your trip between April and June or September and October to enjoy long, warm sunny days, perfect for strolling around the Parque del Buen Retiro and the Royal Palace.
So long as you pack your winter clothes, Madrid is also a beautiful spot to visit later in the year. With Madrid weather temperatures averaging around 13ºC in November, it’s a great time to check out the city’s art collection at the Museo del Prado or the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. You’ll find the crowds are smaller, too.
Some of our favourite places to visit in Madrid include Plaza Mayor, the city’s vibrant main square, where you can relax with a beer or a coffee and people-watch on sunny days. We also love the Gran Via for its shops and stunning architecture and the curious Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple which was taken apart and rebuilt in the Spanish capital. The city’s packed with history and culture, so there’s plenty to do, even on rainy days.
