London – Weather
If you’ve never been there before, you might be surprised to find that the weather in London is actually far hotter and sunnier for much of the year than other parts of the UK. There’s a chance of rain all year round, but go in the summer months and you can expect average highs of around 23ºC-27°C, great weather for sightseeing.
Pack your umbrella, watch out for rain
London weather is notoriously unpredictable, which is why we suggest coming to the city between June and September, when it tends to be warmest and there’s likely to be less chance of rain. Winters here can get chilly, so if you’re planning a trip to London in December or January, pack some warm clothes and hunt out some of the city’s cosiest pubs for a Sunday roast and a pint.
Because the weather in London is so changeable, packing layers and an umbrella is always a good idea. Just like the rest of the country, it can rain with little notice even on the sunniest days, so it pays to be prepared. Thankfully, there’s plenty to do on rainy days, like checking out the British Museum or taking the kids to the Natural History Museum to see the T-Rex.
Many people think London is at its prettiest in the winter months, which is also a great time for exploring the city’s indoor attractions like museums and galleries. Provided you bring enough warm clothes with you, it can be a beautiful time of year to visit.
Some of our favourite places to visit in London include Hyde Park (a great family picnic spot), South Bank, the ideal place for al fresco dining on sunny summer days, and of course Buckingham Palace, where you can see the Changing of the Guard.
