Doing Dubai on a Discount

Going out in Dubai doesn’t really come cheap, especially if you plan on drinking fruity piña coladas all evening. People who work in Dubai are on tax-free salaries, so they can usually afford to splash the cash.

A pint of beer will set you back between 40 to 80 dirhams (£7.50 to £15), depending on where you are, while cocktails are a minimum of 60 dirhams (£11.50), although some places are much pricier. If you fancy securing a table at a club, you may need to empty your piggy bank, as you can expect to pay between 3,000 and 5,000 dirhams (£600 to £1000) depending on the night of the week and the club.

However, if you’re prepared and you know where to go, you can do Dubai on a discount, and that starts by going out early for happy hours. If you’re of the fairer sex you can save a lot, as there are plenty of ladies’ nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays where you can expect free entry and discounts on drinks.

Friday brunches are very popular in Dubai. The most popular ones feature all-you-can-drink champagne or sparkling wine, alongside a good spread of great breakfast items. If you’re looking for one of the better priced brunches, decide between Maya Dubai or Tora Tora. Both are 500 dirhams (£96) with free flowing champagne. Pyramids Restaurant is only 235 dirhams (£45), which includes unlimited house wine, while you can have a cheap brunch without the booze.

All-you-can-drink barbecue nights, unlimited cheese and wine parties, and bottomless coffee cafés for the morning after are other good ways to save a bit of cash.

Some bars won’t appreciate you sat there nursing one drink all night, but in others there’s so much going on around you that you don’t necessarily need to drink for entertainment. Head to the Bollywood Bar for belly dancing, Escoba for traditional Arabic music, Tchaikovsky for Russian cabaret and Cirque du Soir for jugglers, fire breathers and aerial artists.
