Budapest – Weather
Getting an idea of the weather in Budapest will make planning your trip much simpler, and you can choose the perfect time to see the many different personalities of this unique destination. Budapest is easy to navigate and packed full of events, so it’s ideal for a city break.
If you’re heading to Budapest in winter, prepare for chilly temperatures between -2° and 4°. Cold temperatures mean more chance of snow though, so the Baroque architecture looks even more magical, and munching on Chimney cake while wandering the Christmas market at Vorosmarty square will keep you cosy. Winter is also a fabulous time to indulge at the famous Szechenyi Baths.
Spring weather in Budapest sees temperatures warm up, so it’s a perfect time to explore the city on foot, taking in the beauty of St. Stephens Basilica and the magnificent parliament building. Walking across Szechenyi Chain Bridge between Buda and Pest is a must-do and the view of the city looks especially beautiful at night. Rain is possible, so you’ll still need a rain-coat.
Budapest weather is warm and dry in summer, the kind of weather that makes a boat trip on the Danube even more memorable. Warm evenings are ideal for visiting an iconic Ruin bar for a taste of Budapest’s vivid nightlife, or look up a rooftop bar to experience phenomenal city views. If the heat gets too much you can seek shelter in one of Budapest’s exquisite churches and synagogues, or simply grab a unique rose-shaped ice-cream from Gelarto Rosa.
Autumn is pleasantly warm, meaning getting around is comfortable. Summer crowds have gone so museums and galleries feel calmer. CAFé Budapest Festival in October gives you a chance to understand what makes this city tick, and autumn colours cast a glow over City Park. Later in the season is the perfect time to dig in to a paprika rich pörkölt or fruity pálinka.
We’ve put together a summary of Budapest weather to help you pick the perfect season for your break.
