Amsterdam – Weather
If you’re visiting in spring, you’ll find the Amsterdam weather is perfect for enjoying the spectacular tulips at Keukenhof. As the weather in Amsterdam varies, be sure to time your visit to coincide with Tulip season, which can be any time from early to mid-April and lasts for just three weeks.
In summer, Amsterdam is usually bright and warm, perfect for whiling away a couple of hours at a canal side café such as t’Smalle, sampling local delights such as Poffertjes. It’s a great time to venture further afield too, explore the working windmills at Zaanse Schans or escape the city bustle in beautiful Vondelpark. Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy a canal trip, which gives you a chance to enjoy this city from a different angle and imagine it in its 17th century heyday. Be sure to visit the canal house museum Het Grachtenhuis to absorb the splendour of Amsterdam’s golden age.
In Autumn, the weather in Amsterdam turns a little cooler and rainfall does increase. This is a great time to explore some of Amsterdam’s 75 museums. Anne Frank House should be at the top of your list and will give you a moving and memorable insight into the history. You’ll find outstanding artwork at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and there’s even an entire museum dedicated to cheese.
Winter can be cold but fewer crowds mean you have a chance of getting a fabulous deal. The unique architecture of Amsterdam looks stunning in the snow and gives you the opportunity to take some truly impressive photographs. With frozen canals, cosy cafés, and free entry to many museums you’ll find winter is a wonderful time to visit.
Whatever the weather here, with so many activities to choose from you’ll find Amsterdam is a fabulous year-round city break destination.
