Partying in Amsterdam: Planning an amazing hen party or stag do
If you’re planning a stag or hen do then Amsterdam’s coffee shops, clubs and huge amounts of beer make it a great option. If you’re on best man or bridesmaid duty and organising a trip, a good place to start is with a boat trip around the city’s canals. You can hire your own boat or join a tour which comes with free flowing wine and beer and maybe a BBQ as you float along.
Or why not hire a beer bike, so you can sightsee, get some exercise, and drink beer all at once? Bikes seat five to 17 people, plus a designated sober driver or guide, for a 90 minute tour around the centre of Amsterdam. If you prefer prosecco to beer then you can hire a bubbly bike instead.
Sticking with the beer theme, head to the Heineken Experience for a behind the scenes tour of Amsterdam’s most famous brewery. Try some tasting samples and find out what it’s like to be a bottle of Heineken in the Brew Your Ride 4D adventure.
If you love cocktails then make your own at the House of Bols on Paulus Potterstraat. Take a self guided tour with tastings of the company’s liqueurs and genever, which is a spirit a bit like gin, before mixing them up in a cocktail masterclass.
Go looking for laughs at one of Amsterdam’s great English language comedy clubs. Try Rozengracht’s Boom Chicago for improv and sketch shows or IJdock’s Comedy Café for Dutch and international acts.
If you want to finish your night on the dance floor, you should know that some clubs won’t let big single sex groups in, although this applies more to guys than girls. One way to get around it is to visit a music venue like Melkweg on Lijnbaansgracht or Weteringschans’s Paradiso. Arrive in time for the gig then stay on for the DJs afterwards and party until you drop.
