China – Things to do
You’ll never struggle for things to do in China, as you’ll be picking from amazing theme parks, stunning nature reserves and breathtaking historical monuments, to name just a few.
1.Explore the Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is an incredible testament to the empires of old. The largest man-made structure in the world, it’s as vast as it is imposing. But it’s not just one, unbroken wall, as you might have assumed. Divided into sections, you’ll be able to visit both almost collapsed, ancient parts and newly renovated sections that are only a few hundred years old. It’s this variety that makes the Wall so special. It’s a vibrant piece of history that tells a story of a great empire’s growth and fall over a thousand years.
2.Visit Lantau Island
Lantau Island is a green haven in the busy southern territory of Hong Kong. While bustling cities and buildings dominate its neighbouring islands and the mainland, Lantau is a quieter and more peaceful location. With its beaches, serene mountain walks and incredible wildlife, you’ll fall in love with this delightful island. On a family holiday? You’ll be happy to find that the island also hosts Hong Kong Disneyland.
3.Explore the Forbidden City
A huge complex of ornate courtyards and elaborate buildings, the Forbidden City is an astounding monument to China’s heritage. Forbidden for hundreds of years because it was the home of the Emperor and commoners weren’t allowed in, it now stands as a symbol to the incredible culture of this amazing country.
4.Visit Ocean Park
If you’re looking for fun and excitement, a trip to Ocean Park is hard to beat. China’s answer to the western mega-theme park is more spectacular than you can imagine. It’s a zoo, a waterpark, a 5-star resort and a carnival all in one. See rare Chinese animals in carefully crafted habitats, as well as exotic animals from around the world. Then jump on a 15m tall roller coaster and prepare for the thrill of a lifetime. And once you’ve calmed down from that, enjoy games and shopping on the seafront boulevard.
