What attractions can I find in and around Ocho Rios?

Dunn’s River Falls and Park are a must-see for any visitor to Jamaica, and only a short drive from Ocho Rios. Take your swimwear as you are able to take a dip in the clear, freshwater pools at the bottom and climb right to the top to get the best views of this beautiful landmark.

The Blue Hole is another natural wonder worth a visit, it’s less well known than Dunn’s River Falls and is a few miles into the hills in Ocho Rios. It’s a quiet rainforest pool surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and trees, again take your swimwear as you won’t be able to resist jumping in.

Situated right in the heart of Ocho Rios is Mystic Mountain, get away from the beach and climb through the tropical forests to the peak, 700-feet up, to get the best views of the island. Whilst you’re in the forests you can take a zipline above the forest canopy, catch the Sky Explorer chairlift to the top and back and experience the Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica ride.


What are the best beaches in Ocho Rios?

The beaches in Ocho Rios have something to offer everyone, Reggae Beach is the main one in the resort although it is not huge it is set against a backdrop of jagged cliffs and surrounded by palm trees. There is an entrance fee to get onto the beach, however once there, there are showers, sun loungers and you are able to rent snorkels and other diving equipment. As the name suggests you will hear reggae music from the beach bars and the beach front restaurants provide a real taste of Jamaica with Jerk Chicken and Spicy Lobster.

Mallard Beach in downtown Ocho Rios is perfect for mixing with the locals and its location  is perfect for combining a spot of shopping with a lazy day by the sea. Again there is a small fee to access the beach.

Head to Turtle Beach, which is the largest beach in Ocho Rios and lined with coconut palms. The shallow waters and separate section for children make it ideal for the whole family.



How far is Ocho Rios from Kingston?

It takes approximately 3 hours (36 miles) to get to the island’s capital from Ocho Rios. There are day tours available that stop at several famous island landmarks including the Bob Marley museum along the way.

If you want to make your own way there you can, buses are available from Ocho Rios but can be quite expensive. Taxis are also available, and work out cheaper as you can usually hire these for the whole day and they will take you wherever you want to go.


Can I swim with dolphins in Ocho Rios?

A visit to Dolphin Cove is a must to experience swimming with dolphins, it is quite expensive but there are also other attractions to fill your day whilst you are there.  Not only will you have the experience of a lifetime, getting close to these amazing creatures, but you have the opportunity to see stingrays and sharks in their natural environment plus other jungle wildlife.


What is Ocho Rios like in January?

January is one of the cooler months of the year, this said temperatures are still  in their mid-20s with very little rain. Visitors to the island slowly increase as the year progresses so January will be quieter than the usual popular summer months.
