Very well located hotel and very friendly and helpful staff. Very about about our stay. Very nice room with a view. Easy access from the Central station. In the center and heart of Brussels and next to the Grand Place.

News from Absurdistan

Being a Silver member of the Accor Club, this was my third stay in the Novotel Off Grand Place and very probably my last. So you might asked what happened. The usual positive features (location) still apply, but the pavement in front of the hotel is a preferred spot for people who get rid of their e-scooters, so it can be challenging to zigzag around them. Apparently the hotel management does not care. The really frustrating experience came on the last morning in the breakfast room when I thought it would be an idea to have fried eggs. So I asked the man in charge of the hot dishes to prepare two plates with two fried eggs for my wife and myself. I could not believe my ears when I heard this reply: "No, we stopped doing eggs." As I found this statement to be astonishing (to put is diplomatically) I asked the lady in charge of the breakfast room and she said: "Oh yes, the chef is on its own on weekends, it's too busy a time to prepare egg dishes". The best is yet to come: upon checking out, I asked the receptionist if that was a decision of an overworked individual or if it was company policy and her reply was: "I don't work in the breakfast room, but I think they never did any egg dishes". You are probably aware of the fact that Belgium is the capital of surrealism, but this beats it all. Was I asking for the moon? No, I was in a 4 star hotel in downtown Brussels where breakfast comes at 23 EUR/person, and I requested fried eggs! Does an individual have to undergo a specific "chef" training resulting in a license to do fried eggs? Probably anyone could learn it within half an hour... Let's not forget that the Brussels hospitality sector is just recovering from various lockdowns and an occupancy rate hovering around 20% and on the first occasion when business improves, customers are confronted with such a rude, unhelpful attitude unimaginable in any country I have been traveling to.

Amazing location, great room, happy family holiday

I am really pleased we stayed in this hotel for our recent family holiday to Brussels. We stayed in a superior double which had a king size bed plus 2 single sofa beds which my 7 year old found very comfortable. Lovely spacious room on the 2nd floor which had a window that opened overlooking the street just up from a little square the hotel faces on to. Wasn’t noisy at all. The room got very warm when the sun moved round later in the day but the air conditioning kept the temperature comfortable and gave us a bit of white noise to sleep to. Bathroom had a bath & shower cubicle, and a separate toilet which was all super clean and plenty of towels & toiletries restocked during our 3 night stay. Breakfast was standard buffet fare - cereals, fruit, pastries, plus hot items and a crepe & fresh waffle stand. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast crew in particular were great. Location cannot be beat - you are just one street away from the Grand Place and a minute walk from the Centraal station which is a main hub for trains and metros which were super easy to navigate using Apple Maps. There is also a carreforre express supermarket at the station so we could pick up big bottles of water each day to keep in the fridge in our hotel room. We want to return to brussels for a Christmas market and this hotel will be our preferred choice!
