Sa Mirada
330 reviews
Sa Mirada is an apartment hotel set on a hillside in a quiet, rural area of Arenal d'en Castell. This small resort town is on the northern coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca. The hotel is a short stroll from the beach. From Sa Mirada's pool and terrace area, you can enjoy views over the sea and the green headland. You can relax by the water with a cool drink from the pool bar. There's also a shallower children's section in the pool, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Sa Mirada has a buffet restaurant. The apartments are steps away from Isla Paraiso hotel, and guests can take advantage of all the facilities there, including occasional evening entertainment for adults. There's also kids' entertainment. The main beach at Arenal d'en Castell is sandy and sheltered, so the waters are generally calm. There are several beach restaurants where you can get drinks and snacks. Arenal d'en Castell itself is a modern resort with plenty of places to eat, and some supermarkets. The island's capital, Mahon, is driving distance away, and has a daily market selling clothing and leather goods, plus regular fish markets and artisan markets full of souvenirs, crafts and jewellery. You might like to visit Fort Marlborough, an 18th-century building at the entrance to Mahon harbour.
Sa Mirada is 500m from Arenal d'en Castell Beach and 200m from the centre of town. The Golf Son Parc Menorca 18-hole course is 4km away. From the town, hikers can join the ancient CamÌ de Cavalls path, which leads towards the beach of Cala Tirant in the south. The Fav‡ritx Lighthouse, which dates back to the 1920s, is within driving distance. It stands in the S'Albufera des Gra Natural Park, which has views over the rocky coastline. Here, you might spot some of the 200 species of bird that live on Menorca. From the lighthouse you can walk down to the beach of Cala Presili.
Sa Mirada's pool bar is open throughout the day and evening for beers, wine and cocktails. It also offers lunches, dinners and snacks. The apartments feature the facilities needed to make your own snacks and light meals. There's a selection of restaurants a short stroll away from the hotel.
Guests can make use of the kids' club, playground equipment and sporting activities at the neighbouring Isla Paraiso hotel.
All the rooms at Sa Mirada have a balcony or terrace, a kitchenette with hot plates and a fridge, air conditioning and satellite TV.

Basic is fine, dirty is not...
We were expecting these apartments to be basic. Basic is fine, dirty is not. We stayed for 2 weeks, and our towels were changed twice. Our bedding was changed once, 2 days before we left. The floor hadn't been swept or cleaned properly when arrived, with long dark hairs everywhere. The attached photo is of the corner of the shower tray and the floor immediately AFTER the cleaners had been in. The tiles in the kitchenette area had food splashes on. The whole place had a generally grubby feel about it. The air conditioning unit is ancient, not very efficient and is in the main living area. There is no air con in the bedrooms. The air con unit is on the balcony and is so noisy we couldn't sit out there when the kids were in bed. The pool at Sa Mirada is fine, but small and the kids got bored of it quite quickly. There is also a lack of shade /parasols. You can use the facilities at the sister hotel , but you can forget getting a sun lounger or parasol there. Everywhere you look, there are unoccupied sun loungers with towels on. Many of the guests in the ground floor rooms had pulled sun loungers up on to their patio area, but again were not actually using them. Some people had even stacked loungers to "reserve" them. We gave up trying in the end, and instead went to the lovely pool at El Mirador round the corner instead. We were hoping to use the kids club, but ours (6 & 8) went once and declared it too babyish. The guy running it was great and very enthusiastic, but the activities were aimed at much younger children. Overall, this hotel feels very unloved, and is long overdue a good overhaul.
Mixed Feelings
Have mixed feelings for this hotel having just returned from a weeks stay here. The pool are is very nice, large pool, lots of sun beds, snack bar and beautiful views. The apartment is of a good size, beds are relatively comfortable and the shower is very good. The balcony was small with only enough room for two chairs, so we couldn’t all sit out together and no views to speak of. The most disappointing thing was that our room was not cleaned or bedding replaced even once during our stay, considering it was hot and there can be any issues this is not ideal. We did return back to the room one day to find clean towels plonked on the sofa along with a toilet roll but the dirty towels had not even been removed.
Very Basic
Having read previous reviews I wasn't expecting anything too fancy so I was prepared. Let me start by saying , despite what the brochure says, the reception is closed and you have to go to the Isla Paraiso to check in! The rooms are clean but very basic, very dated, and look like they haven't seen a paint brush in years, the balcony is very small and a bit scruffy. The complex itself looks old, tired and could do with some TLC, however the pool area and pool bar more than make up for this. Very big pool with children's area, more than enough loungers and parasols, and the views from the pool terrace are stunning. Pool bar was good, had a small menu for snacks, the staff member was really friendly. if you're looking for luxury, this isn't the place for you but if you can get a cheap deal for a week away it might be worth a look
