"Probably the best hotel in the Caribbean i have stayed at"

May 2022 | worldtravels_9

Im a travel agent and have visited many lovely destinations in the world and stayed at some really nice hotels. But in the Caribbean The Inn At English Harbour is the best by far. Beach...Absolutely gorgeous, uncrowded with plenty of sunbeds and more around the beautiful infinity pool. You never feel packed in like you can do at some other hotels. Gardens...are immaculate with stunning hues of purple and pink that sets a serene background against the white of the buildings. Very tastefully done. Restaurants...Breakfast is a delight at The Reef restaurant, what more could you ask for when you sit with your morning coffee looking out to the sea with the yachts gently bobbing in the stunning bay . Dinner at The Terrace restaurant will take your breath away, the views over English Harbour and Nelsons Dockyard are spectacular day and night. Food...Of very good quality at both restaurants, The Terrace changes its menu on a weekly basis but there are ample choices to keep you happily fed for a week . I was delighted as im a huge shrimp fan and i could have lived on the shrimp dishes for the whole 10 days, I tried but there was so many other delicious options available. Staff...This really sets The Inn apart from some other hotels. I have generally found staff in the Caribbean to be friendly, but at The Inn you get a genuine friendliness and nothing is ever too much trouble for them, they are well trained and look after you well and appear to enjoy doing so. Everyone is lovely from the gardeners and housekeeping staff to the bar and restaurant staff. There are too many to mention but Cindy and Sherlyn in The Terrace made our evenings entertaining along with all the other staff in the bar, lovely genuine friendly people. The beach and pool attendant (sorry i cant remember his name) made sure that we were well looked after with drinks and that our sunbeds etc were all set up properly. Nothing was too much trouble for him and of course we were welcomed by the smiling, happy Shenice on arrival . All staff deserve to be mentioned . Would i return ?.....OH i stated earlier i have travelled extensively but The Inn will have a special place in my heart and i will certainly return again and look forward to returning to work to share my excellent experience with my clients and let them experience The Inn for themselves. It was 10 days of absolute joy....cant thank you all enough for making it so special. Hope to see you all again soon.

Staff, staff, staff. Just the best.

We have stayed here twice before and found it to be so wonderful that we were back for a third and even longer stay. The location and beach are sensational, the food very good, especially at the beach location, but without great staff we would not have returned. We found all of the ladies and gents totally professional, efficient, helpful in the broadest sense and simply delightful to spend time with. We had a phenomenal room, number 32, which was large, furnished with attractive pieces, an extremely comfortable bed and a great first floor terrace. The staff that looked after the room in the day and the evening turn down were lovely and did a superb job. It is wrong to mention one person as it was a team that cared for us, but on our last night Francis prepared the four poster bed so beautifully. Very special and thank you. The restaurant by the water was as wonderful as it has been on previous occasions, whilst in the past the upper level one was not. However, we were very pleased to find that this restaurant had now improved markedly and was now a good place to spend an evening in terms of food and atmosphere. May I offer one small suggestion for the future. On the one evening a week when you have an Italian Night focus on pasta and pizza dishes. At present they play hardly any part in the menu when any European or American visitor will tell you why they go to Italian restaurants in their own country is to enjoy great pasta and pizza dishes. Indeed down at the beach restaurant I had a spaghetti carbonara, which was on as a special, and I am not exaggerating when I say in my 60 years of eating said dish this was one of the best. Sorry to go on but please accept I’m only offering this advice to raise the high standards achieved even higher. We hired a car this time for a couple of days, which worked very well using a local outfit the hotel recommended. We discovered not very far away an exceptional beach call Pigeon Beach which also had a great place to have lunch, called Catherine’s Cafe. It was a very good beachside restaurant and we could not understand why they’d chose to call it a cafe. I will finish where I started, the staff are the key to this place being exceptional. I shouldn’t start naming as those left off are just as important, that said I’ve already started as I’ve mentioned Francis, so here goes. Martin, the gardener, gave us an exceptional tour around his world which was then finished by one of the brilliant chefs and Sasha providing an edible experience of the produce grown, which was simply delicious and a greatway to end the tour. The beach side restaurant team were exceptional and those who I recall include Miriam, Tonya, Ariel, Sasha, Leroy, Ocean, Stacey, Neal, Pedro in the kitchen and most importantly not to be forgotten the amazing Orquadia. There is as large a team at the top but many of their names I did not manage to get, but some I did, both Neal and Stacey work up here as well as well as Earl. On the beach many helped so sorry, but Shaquan is the only name I can include. Now the final person who has to be mentioned is Vere who very ably captains the hotels boat which can be used to take you around to Nelson’s Dockyard and beyond. This man has all the life experience and people skills you could wish for and is a great chap to spend time with in conversation. So thank you those that I have named and very much all of the others that I have not. You are The Inn and make it the delight that it is. Would we stay here again? Stupid question. Try and stop us.

Hidden gem… pleasant surprise!

We are currently on day 6 of our stay at the Inn with 3 more to go. My husband and I are terrible, awful people who have to be pampered and catered to. We like luxury and good food and are generally crabby when we find something deficient. This is not what we’d typically choose for a getaway, but I am so glad my TA recommended this lovely place for us to regroup for a last minute getaway. The hotel, restaurant, beach, and transportation staff are just the kindest, most accommodating, and pleasant folks you could hope for. The grounds aren’t fancy but they are well Maintained and clean, albeit a bit brown. Understand that Antigua is very spare with the water. With No rivers or natural water resources, I agree with not running sprinklers to waste water for a mere aesthetic effect. Our room, not the largest or fanciest available, is very spacious and comfortable, with a homey porch overlooking the pool and bay at a short distance. It meets all our basic needs. The water pressure is fantastic as well, which is super important to us. I overpacked as usual so I was pleased to find 2 closets. Plenty of space in the bathroom as well, double sinks, and a stand up shower. No tub. (Which we didn’t want anyway.. slip hazard). Breakfast is included and is pretty basic, but perfectly fine for its purpose. How much fuel do you need to lay in the sun and drink rum punch? They aren’t stingy with the booze, which I really appreciate! Get original rum punch with lime. It’s so much better, and a little stronger. Lunch as well as dinner are passably good. It’s not going to make you do flips, but I can’t complain about the quality or quantity. Even if I wanted to, the people are so darn nice I’d feel like a heel. Decent wine list, and the bottle prices are surprisingly reasonable for an island to which everything must be imported. In fact I have found that to be true across the island. Being a smaller hotel finding beach chairs is never an issue. No need to arm wrestle any Britons for a spot on the beach. It’s a very serene environment with sailboats moored in the bay and a gently lapping surf of clearish water. This was such a last minute trip (3 days in from inception to travel) so when I found out there wa a “meal plan” I panicked a little. We loathe all inclusive and avoid them at all costs. We actually ended up with a half board plan which allows us breakfast (which we usually sleep through) and either lunch or dinner. We have subbed a few times and taken the short trip across the bay. There are plenty of offerings there some of which are VERY good. I had the longest, best massage ever at the spa. It’s tiny, not fancy, even a bit rustic. But the services are superb. Have you ever had a 45 minute head massage? If not, you are missing out. 20/10 would recommend. Transportation is quick, efficient and cheap. There is even a little water taxi during the day that will scootch you across the harbor, where all the restaurants and shops are, in a couple short minutes. Very convenient and pleasant. Two tiny details that could be improved: Better towels for the rooms (the beach towels are nice though) and some extra snacks in the minibar. That’s really it. We miss our dog like crazy.. but for him we probably wouldn’t be going back anytime soon. I’ve really enjoyed our stay and can solidly recommend The Inn.
