7-day holiday break
I have stayed in other resorts on the island of Antigua before but this was the worst in my opinion. Some room do not have TV, beds are made up every day but not changed with clean linen. Clean towels are not replaced daily. See (pic below) I was served up corn beef tin key cooked in my breakfast.
little shabby but very chic.
Our fifth stay here! We cant keep away.Although the infrastructure is definitely showing its age the ambiance remains the same. We have learnt it is worth paying a little extra for a better room although this time there was a problem with water pressure.Sometimes a very slow drip from the shower and at other times we hit the jackpot and could rinse the shampoo out properly. Bed comfortable and great housekeeping service. We were there during a very quiet period. The food was plentiful and hot and has improved since our last stay. Also hygiene was a lot better. Evening entertainment was very limited probably due to lack of guests but we met some great people and had good fun. A bonus on the beach this year was watching the pigs having a dip in the sea. Unfortunately the beach boys on Eden beach were a real nuisance and we had to beg them to leave us alone several times. We do love this hotel for its uniqueness and will return. It's value for money especially in Antigua. No frills but comfortable friendly and has all you need for a really relaxing holiday.
The Hawksbill, great staff, great location, accomodation should be better
After a long flight and long queues at the airport to complete covid documentation and customs forms we arrived at the Hawkbill. We were shown our room after navigating a puddle but found that it was dark and dusty. The towels on the bed were a nice touch. We rejected this one, we also rejected the second room as the mosquito screens did not fit, the smoke alarm needed a battery and the handle of the drawer fell off. The third room also in the same block was larger and on the second floor so we didn't need to negotiate around the puddle with our cases. At this point we were too tired to argue so accepted it. After a terrible start, we enjoyed the hotel, the staff were very helpful, the meals were good, the local beer was good. Our room cleaned each day. We made use of the kayaks and paddled around the Hawksbill. The beach looked just like a picture from the travel agents. Final gripe make use of the ATM in town as the hotel charged me 33% comission. Hotel rates are usually high but not extortionate. The walk to the Five Islands, the local village is longer than it looks on the map. On our return we asked the local bus driver to take us to the hotel which he obliged for a small fee. Overall, I would recommend the Hawksbill if you can book 1 year on advance to stay in a bungalow with a seaview. They were repairing the gutters in the main block we stayed in so hopefull this we stop the flooding. I am writing this to manage your expectations as the staff and location are great.
