We booked a late deal with Thomas Cook for Puerto de la Cruz. The booking process was very smooth and easy. So was the on-line check in, bag drop at Gatwick and flight, although slow boarding did delay the take off. The cabin crew worked so hard during the flight with what seemed to be a full plane, making the 4 hours in the air quite bearable. The airport staff were equally good and the transfer to the resort was good. However, the journey made us quite clear that the climate in February in the North West of Tenerife was not the same as that of the south of the island. You travel from barren destert like scenery to lush, verdant landscape. Yes, the NW is less hot and more rainy than the south. Yes, our sunny holiday in Tenerife was looking more unlikely and so it proved to be. Our hotel was listed as 4 stars which was in my opinion was a fair grading. Our rooms was a good standard; spacious and clean. However, I found it a little odd that we had to rent a key for the safe and buy a minimum of €15 in the mini bar to get a key to use the fridge. Penny pinching, profit focused, I don't really know, but the scales in the reception to weigh your luggage also charge a Euro. Finally, we were booked on a half board package, so on to the food. The breakfasts were good, an egg station offered freshly cooked eggs or omelettes and there was a wide variety of other options plus fresh fruits and tasty bread. The evening meal had lots of options but the hot food was rarely hot more likely barely warm. At both meals, water was not served, you had to buy it but what was more irritating was the fact that the best tables appeared to be reserved; a bowl of fruit in the morning, a bottle of wine at dinner. So certain guests could have the best tables with more space and by the windows. We never found out why. Would I go back to the hotel, probably not. Would I go back to Puerto de la Cruz, probably not. Would I go back to Tenerife, yes to the south. Would I use Thomas Cook Holidays, yes I would.

Stayed here for 2 weeks in May. Dreadful start - receptionists didn't know which room to give us. They were arguing (my husband speaks Spanish), making frantic phone calls, using walkie-talkies. Eventually we got room on 3rd floor and went to dinner. HOWEVER our luggage remained in reception! We went to pick it up after dinner at which point the receptionist who only an hour before had put on our wristbands said 'ok, goodbye, you can take luggage' thinking we were leaving!!! ANYONE could have taken our bags! We were the only ones checking in! Would hate to think how they cope with a coach-load!! We were not given our Thomas Cook welcome pack either so missed the reps meeting. When we discovered this several days later, my husband asked for it at reception only to be given one of many they had in a drawer with just a shoulder shrug but no apology. Our room was very dated and tatty although we know the rooms are undergoing renovation. There is no privacy on the balcony due to open-patterned partitioning so if your neighbour smokes you get their smoke. Food was ok as was the drink. We only found out after a week that you can have a BOTTLE of house wine at meal times instead of keep getting refills. No other British guests we told were aware of this. Pool area was not cleaned in the evenings whilst we were there so each morning there was the usual detritus from the day before until finally cleared up. Entertainment was ok but beware strobe lighting is used at 'show time' without warning. Best part is the location.

My first impression was of a very comfortable hotel and everything was of easy access including the patio and swimming pool, the Restaurant was also very comfortable, my only criticism was in the bedrooms and more so the bathroom facilities and I think that these must be checked carefully especially the flush system where there is clearly a fault with the water supply serving some of the bedrooms and I had to notify the management of this technical fault but was quickly dealt with with courtesy.

The hotel was all that we expected and more. The staff were always willing to help and the food was of a very high standard. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked for next year.
