Fantastic hotel would reccomend and will be going again!
After reading the reviews of this resort before departing I was concerned. 'Rooms untidy, thieving maids and unfriendly staff' were just a few of the complaints so needless to say I had low expectations. I came to this hotel with my fiance, mother and brother. Upon arrival everything looked clean, so far so good I thought. The man behind reception seemed nice and the travel agents gave us lots of help throughout the holiday. Then we went up to the rooms and I was blown away. Mine and my partners room was lovely. People who write these negative reviews are clearly expecting a 5* hotel for the price of a 3* (which is what the columbus is) We were both so pleased with the room and how clean it was.
The room remained clean throughout the holiday and the maids were very nice and we greeted them every day before leaving and they were always smiley. I would also like to add that they DO NOT STEAL as we left money out on our kitchen table to 'test' them and when we returned it was still there.
The food is nice allthough we only had a hotdog as we went to the local restaurants to eat. I would deffinately reccomend michael angelos which has beautiful food and if you go you must try the pancakes you will honestly never try a better one! The nightlife also seemed good in the hotel but we spent our nights in the anchor pub which i would also reccomend.
If you can afford it I would advise you to go on at least one excursion while you are there and book it when you arrive NOT beforehand as we had a lot of hastle with ours. The reps will be able to sort it out for you. If you have small children I would advise aqualand and loro parque, in fact if you are any age visit loro parque! If you are teens/couples try the catmaran to see the whales or siam water park. I went to all 3 of these and they were all fantastic (We skipped aqualand as the youngest member of our group was 15)
The staff at the hotel were polite, friendly and nice throughout the holiday and helped us carry our bags in and how to use the phones. We tipped the hotel very well at the end of our trip as it was so much better than we expected. Also i was pleased to see a group of noisy girls recieve a fine and a young boy who was caught bullying.
Fantastic hotel, fantastic ressort, next time we are looking for a place so we can move out there! Thankyou so much to the columbus for being a great hotel which helped make our holiday extra special.

We travelled as a group of 4 females (Mum and 3 daughters) aged between 45 and 69 on 31st January 2014 which was a Christmas gift for our mum. The apartment we were given was on the 5th floor (rm 502) -not a problem as there was a lift. On opening the door to the apartment we were greeted with a severe damp smell. On entering the room we saw large patches of damp on the ceiling which had been obviously covered with paint which was flaking off, particularly in the kitchen and bathroom areas. As our mum suffers with asthma we refused to stay in the room. Hotel reception insisted that the hotel was full and there were no other rooms available. Fortunately, the Thomas Crook Representative - Craig, was very sympathetic and viewed the apartment himself. He agreed with our findings and approximately 20 minutes later was able to secure another apartment on the 3rd floor. The apartments are very basic but served the purpose for a week's break. The winter sun did not cover many areas of the pool so we spent most of our time on the beaches. We could not comment on entertainment or other facilities as we preferred to research the area.
We would not visit this aparthotel again.

Good job weather was good
Stayed at columbus in room 239. When we walked into room just wanted to turn around and come home. Room dated and not even clean. Rep said as it was new year resort was full unless we were prepared to pay 800.00 there and then to upgrade to a hotel that had one room.. All we did was sleep in room well if I can call it sleep 4 of us in 2 beds as what they expected children to sleep on was a hard settee then the second child on a bit of wood underneath with an awful dirty mattress on. Good job weather was good as we were up and out for breakfast as no one in there right mind would have prepared or eaten food in room.

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks self catering holiday at the Columbus. After reading the reviews I was a little concerned about the hotel, but I should not have taken any notice of them.
Our room was big enough and very clean, and kept very clean by the maids who came in every day and changed the towels, swept the floors, emptied the bins etc if you wanted the bed changing you just needed to leave a note on it and that was done too.
There was a fridge, kettle, toaster and enough crockery and cutlery for us, the hob only had two rings there was no oven, but who goes on holiday to slave away over a hot stove when eating out can is so cheap.
The pool area is very nice although there isn't much room for lots of sun beds, though there are plenty of other places to sunbathe, 2 roof terraces and a terrace at the back of the hotel.
The hotel is just a 10 min walk to the beach.
We would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to friends.

poor hotel needs renavating.
just returned after a two week holiday at the columbus,i was a bit concerned about the reviews i had read but i have to say most of them were right ,we were all inclusive and the food was very repetative and swimming in grease ..the rooms were not cleaned properly the cleaners just came in made your bed and that was it .our sheets were only changed twice in two weeks and i had to go and ask them or i dont think they would have been changed at all .they were very under staffed and i think that was the problem ,we had to set our own table some nights as the resturant staff were run off there feet trying to clear the tables. it was such a shame around the poole area as it got no sun all day ,and all the sunbeds need replacing and there is not enough of them on the sun terrace on the roof i would not return to this hotel .the one good thing is that the reception staff did try to help if you asked them for anything but you should not have to ask for your sheets to be changed .

i have read loads of reviews for this hotel but can't agree with some of them, we stay at this hotel every year, ok the reception staff need a customer care course but otherwise the staff are brilliant, food wise ...well what do you want for 3 star, its central location to the bars is great, and notfar to walk to the beach, rooms are quite big, and if your on the back of the hotel its quiet at night, and if theres any trouble its sorted straight away, entertainment is naf but at least they try, but im talking about january not the summer months ...will i stay there again ..oh yes its certainly value for money .

fantastic getaway for everyone!
I have seen a lot of negative reviews on this hotel, however last year for my 18th birthday i went away on a girls holiday and loved this holiday. The hotel has loads to offer and is a great value for money! especially if you enjoy going all inclusive. The hotel is situated just 10 minutes away from the lively strip, which allows you to come away from the limelight when you want but its easy to access when you want a wild night out! I would recommend this holiday for people of all ages. Staff were extremely friendly, and the room was genuinly clean. everything you need for a perfect holiday away.
