have just returned from a weeks break with my family and have to say had a lovely relaxing time, Basic clean very spacious apartments with all the amenities we could need, large fridge freezer, oven hob and extractor fan kettle and toaster. located a relatively quiet area and its very hilly so no good for anyone with walking difficulties. Pool would not cater for everyone if the apartments were full and everyone wanted a sunbed but wasnt a problem for us. Enough bars and restaurants for us but if you want something more lively then probably not for you. Overall we enjoyed even though we were apprehensive about going and would definitely go again

Apartments were very spacious, well equipped and clean, furniture was a little dated but it really didn't matter to us. Large balcony, which overlooked the road (but it was still a nice view), it was a little noisy in the day but never a problem at night. Location was perfect, just a few minutes walk to the centre and with a couple of nice restaurants on the doorstep. Pool area wasn't very big so I did wonder what it would be like in peak season to get a sunbed, but no problem in March. Very hilly area so wouldn't recommend for people with walking difficulties.

Most of the internet reviews are very accurate. Spotlessly clean, basic apartments in a great location. Yes, the first floor apartments are better if you want a sea view, but a lovely little complex all round. Los Gigantes is fairly quiet and a bit upmarket which is lovely. Don't go here expecting late night bars, nightclubs etc, but definitely go if you want a relaxing and peaceful time eating out at some nice restaurants. All the staff were very polite and personable and we would definitely return here again. Had our teenage daughter with us, and she really enjoyed it here, in between revision!

El Sombrero apartments are bases in Los Gigantes, which is lovely and I would go back to stay in the same area. Unfortunately the apartments are noisy and not that comfortable. They are right on one main road and two side roads, so getting away from traffic noise we found difficult. We could also hear the people above us all the time, not that I think they were particularly noisy, but could hear them using their shower, walking across the room, opening doors etc. They are quite large apartments and the kitchen was good. The bathroom, though nice and large still only had a sink, loo and small sized bath with a shower over - shame as it could have easily fitted a separate shower AND a full sized bath. There was only just enough hot water for two consecutive showers. The view we had was straight on to another apartment's front door, so when coming out of our bathroom, i always had to make sure I was covered up. Staff were fine, but not as friendly as we find the greek staff. Also a rep 'is available', this means that they met us at the airport, told us what coach to go on, gave us a booklet with telephone numbers and that was that! No welcome meeting or anything. Luckily we are quite self sufficient, but I do expect to have a little more to do with a rep than once at the airport!

Just returned from 1 week self-catering at El Sombrero in Los Gigantes, Tenerife. The accommodation was very dated and needed refreshing but was nevertheless spotlessly clean with frequent maid service. Even our studio apartment had a separate kitchen which was well fitted out (no need to hire a kettle) and a separate bathroom with plenty of very hot water. The grounds were immaculately maintained and beautifully manicured and the whole place looked good. Unfortunately we stayed in apartment 14 which has a white brick wall just 8 feet in front of the balcony with absolutely no view whatsoever and this was disappointing although it did get the sun in the afternoons. Despite this, the accommodation was good value for money. Los Gigantes is a lovely quiet resort with majestic, towering cliffs dropping vertically into the ocean, our only disappointment was the lack of access to the sea other than the tiny beach. There is no promenade of any kind so if you want to sit in the sun then it's either the beach or sit in a restaurant. There is very little to do in Los Gigantes and after a couple days which included dolphin watching, we were restless for more to do. There are the usual array of restaurants serving all manner of cuisine. The flights were excellent and although the meals were the usual airline fayre they were certainly tasty, hot and welcome. (The treacle sponge was excellent)
