Hotel Porto Mare - Hotel Info

Hotel Porto Mare is set in the Vila Porto Mare Resort overlooking the Atlantic, a short stroll from Funchal's popular Lido area. There are two outdoor swimming pools and a whirlpool in the gardens, and a smaller pool for younger swimmers. You could order a drink or snack from one of the poolside bars, and relax on one of the garden's sun terraces.
The hotel shares some facilities with its sister hotels in the Resort, The Residence and Eden Mar. The spa has two indoor heated pools, saunas and a second whirlpool for you to relax in. You might also like to book a treatment. The three hotels also share a gym and tennis courts. There's a choice of places to eat at the complex, and the à la carte restaurants specialise in Portuguese cuisine. The buffet restaurant has a terrace with a sea view. The hotel hosts regular live musical entertainment.
Close to the hotel, a tree-lined promenade leads you to the Lido swimming complex or the pebbled local beaches. There are places to eat and drink along the promenade. Funchal's historic old town is a short drive or shuttle bus ride from the hotel.

I stayed in The Residence as an owner, this was my fifth visit, and I traveled alone, but I have made friends with many people and we love to meet up at the coffee morning and manager's evening. This resort is fabulous and the staff are excellent, very helpful and efficient. The apartments are very roomy and comfortable, equipped with everything you need. The gardens are wonderful and are lovely if you want to take a quiet stroll. All the restaurants are excellent as is the food, such a choice you just don't know what to choose. This year I met up with friends to go to the One Night Dinner Show, this only the second year they have done this, what a n excellent night, food was out of this world, I would thoroughly recommend this event. Once again the weather was very good, most of the time in the 20s. What a difference to Britain !!!! As usual I had a great holiday and look forward to going again in 2015, I would recommend this resort to anyone whether alone , as a couple or a family. Whether you stay at the Eden Mar, the Porto Mar or The Residence I am sure you will have a wonderful holiday and you will enjoy good weather, food, comfort and service.

We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment that was extremely comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen. The cleaning service was excellent as was the front-desk staff. On New Year's Eve the resort provided buses for residents that took us to a viewing point to watch the firework display. Awesome! On a daily basis there is a complimentary bus that transports residents into Funchal and back again. Very convenient for anyone who doesn't want to walk to and from Funchal. The pool area is beautifully planted and immaculate with plenty of lounge chairs. We didn't eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food nor did we take advantage of the Spa facilities. The Porto Mare is so well-situated. The hop-on/hop off bus, and Yellow Tour Bus, is a mere 5 minute walk. The companies who offer guided walks pick up and drop off from the resort. There are two supermarkets close-by and a wide choice of restaurants. There is a small shop almost at the entrance to the resort that sells European newspapers. The Forum, a shopping mall, is a 15 minute walk and well-worth visiting. The cinema is in the mall and shows new "blockbuster" releases. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Funchal other than the Porto Mare Residence. Thank you for a wonderful holiday...again!

Staying at the Porto Mare we Resort could not have asked for more. The room was large and immaculate. A couple of days poor weather were not spoilt by being able to use the indoor pools, even if slighly cold ! A good mix of age ranges and nationalities. Located in the hotel zone not far from local attractions. Overall an excellent choice, can't wait to go back !!

Our holiday (once in the resort) was excellent - this was our 4th visit to the same resort! However the one negative was a switch from Thomas Cook airlines to Thomson this meant a very early flight (6am departure) with a 3yr old and no prebookable in flight food or appropriate food to be purchased, this made for a very long 4hr flight.

We have never travelled to Maderia before and did so on the recommendation of a friend. The Villa Porto Mare is a beautiful hotel wilth well maintained gardens that would rival any botanical garden. The staff were always extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The pool areas are spotless with pool staff constantly walking around tiding up and checking parasols to make sure they are working. There were plenty of sunbeds and parasols available, although you still got the odd person who would put their towels out at 7.30am but there was really no need to. There are plenty of good restaurants close to the resort and a supermarket within 10 mins walk. We had a lovely holiday here and will be returning io the Porto Mare very soon.
