Why choose Emerald Princess?

One of the newest ships to join the Princess cruises fleet, the Emerald Princess pushed back the boundaries of what was possible on cruise liner. Princess cruises has acquired a solid reputation for innovation, and on board this vast vessel, five star accommodation and service is sure to add to the adventure of exploring the Baltic, the Atlantic and the Caribbean.

Destinations and Itineraries

Up until the end of August the Emerald Princess is a regular sight on the Baltic Sea as it tours Scandinavia and Russia on cruises that last for 12 days with eleven nights on board. Passengers can embark at either Warnemunde, the port for Berlin, or at Copenhagen, as the ship repeats the route for several weeks. Ports of call include Tallinn in Estonia, Russia’s second city of St Petersburg, Helsinki in Finland, Stockholm in Sweden, the enchanting Danish capital Copenhagen and the historic heart of Norway, Oslo. Arhus in the Jutland peninsula of Denmark is the final stop for passengers who picked up the ship in Germany.

For world travellers with 27 nights to spare, the end of August sees the ship set sail on a colossal Northern Europe Grand Adventure Cruise, heading out from Copenhagen and making stops at 15 ports before reaching its final destination of New York City. All of the destinations on the Scandinavia and Russia cruises are visited. In addition, the Emerald Princess calls in at the emerald isle with a night in Belfast and then a day at sea followed by a stop at Reykjavik in Iceland, Qaqortoq in Greenland, Halifax in Canada’s Nova Scotia territory and finally New York. Having arrived at the US east coast the ship has a short series of Canada and New England cruises before heading south for the Caribbean for cruises lasting 10 or 20 days.

Cruise ship and facilities

When all the cabins have double occupancy the Emerald Princess can comfortably carry 3,800 passengers and 1,200 crew. Nonetheless, the impressively designed and spacious interiors ensure that the ship never feels crowded. There are 1,544 cabins on board and 879 of them have private balconies - a further 234 have an ocean view. Each cabin is attractively designed with sufficient storage space for even the longest of cruises. Cabins have a fridge safe TV and room service is available on a 24-hour basis.

Should passengers want to venture out from their cabins, there are plenty of activities to keep their mind and body engaged. The Emerald Princess has three swimming pools out on deck and a fourth inside with a sliding glass roof as well as nine Jacuzzis. For those who prefer to stay dry, there is a good promenade deck with plenty of sunbathing space.

Out on deck attractions include mini golf, a golf simulator and deck chess. Activities for the more energetic include aerobics and a well-equipped gym. There is also an extensive health spa on board with different alternative health therapies on offer and a sauna and steam room to unwind in.

A fully supervised children’s play area is one of the reasons why the Emerald Princess is rated as good for children. All ages between three and 17 are catered for with a doll’s house, play area, splash pool, a computer and video games room and even a teen disco.

Having worked up their appetite, passengers can take advantage of the excellent food and service in one of the ship’s three main dining rooms, which can accommodate all passengers in two sittings. Food, presentation and service are all good. Alternative options are available including two speciality restaurants, Sabitini’s Trattoria and the Crown Grill for steak and seafood. Less formal options include the Horizon Court buffet, a pizzeria and a burger grill.

The dress code is casual and comfortable during the day and semi-formal in the evening. Formal evenings require a dark suit or dinner jacket for men and a cocktail dress for ladies. After dinner entertainment is staged in the Princess theatre where audiences can expect Broadway style spectaculars.

Alternative entertainment can be found the Explorer Show lounge, the venue for cabaret style shows. There is also Gatsby’s Casino, Skywalker’s Nightclub and several bars to suit your taste - even a cigar lounge. Fans of the big screen can head to the ship’s cinema, and lovers of the written word can make use of the Emerald Princesses library.

With several thousand passengers on board, not everyone is going to want to do the same thing at the same time. The clever design and choice of quality facilities on the Emerald Princess ensures that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, on board one of the most sophisticated ships on the world’s oceans.

Considering her huge size the Emerald Princess manages to create intimate surroundings with plenty of separate areas, ensuring she rarely feels overcrowded or stressful. Quiet havens can be found at the adults only pool, the library, or any of the tucked away lounges and bars. If peace and quiet is what you’re searching for, then cruise holidays onboard the Emerald Princess could be just the ticket. Things do liven up at night, with al fresco movies beneath starlit Caribbean skies, adrenalin fuelled action in the casino and there’s plenty of opportunities to strut your stuff in one of her nightclubs, but don’t expect the Emerald Princess to be a pure party ship; this is the more refined side of cruising holidays.

Luxurious accommodation comes as standard onboard the Emerald Princess and the new premium bed linen, pillows and towels are a welcome addition to every stateroom. For starters there’s an interior cabin at around 160 square feet with shower ensuite, TV refrigerator and a manageable amount of storage. These rooms are compact but thanks to their clever layout are more than spacious enough for a short stop cruise holiday. Splash out on a balcony room or suite and you’re in for an absolute treat, with oodles of living space, stunning views and a glamorous bathroom.

From hand rolled sushi to oven fresh pastries the culinary delights onboard the Emerald Princess are too many to list. Steak, seafood, rustic Italian, pan Asian and guilty pleasures like ice cream and burgers are just some of the treats waiting onboard, all served with flair and panache by the intuitive waiting team. Personal Choice dining means you don’t have to commit to traditional cruise holiday fixed time and seat dining too. Casual, anytime, speciality or traditional; you can eat how and whenever you want.
