Why choose Dawn Princess?

The elegant Dawn Princess is one of the smaller members of the Princess Cruises fleet and is based on the other side of the world. With a sleek profile the ship creates an intimate atmosphere yet boasts a wide range of spacious public rooms. Guests make their entrance in the ship's stunning four deck atrium lobby and the ship’s design, with much use of glass on the upper decks, continues the light and spacious theme of this cruise liner Down Under.

Destinations and Itineraries

The Dawn Princess is based in Sydney but ventures far away from home. In the middle of July the ship sets sail on a round the world cruise lasting 90 days. Passengers can board the ship at specific points along its voyage. After leaving Sydney the Dawn Princess’s only other Australian stop is Brisbane before heading to the South East Asian states of Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

The Indian Ocean is next with a stop at Male, the capital of the Maldives, followed by six days at sea before arriving at Safaga in Egypt. The ship travels along the Suez Canal, stopping at the ancient city of Alexandria. Next stop is Naples before the ship moors at Civitavecchia, the port for Rome. Once in the Mediterranean, the ship tours Sicily, the Greek Islands, Croatia, Venice, Slovenia, Turkey, France, Spain and Malta, before heading back down the Suez to Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and back to Sydney - this time stopping at Darwin.

Once back home, the ship then sets off in October on a tour of Australia and New Zealand on a 35-night cruise stopping at 15 ports and taking in the Great Barrier Reef. A shot cruise along the Australian coast takes the Dawn Princess to its new home of Melbourne in the middle of November, from where the ship sets sail on a series of two week cruises around Australasia.

For a far-flung family cruise the Dawn Princess is the obvious choice. Passengers can discover the world Down Under in luxury and style on board this elegant and stylish ship.

The ship carries between 2,022 and 2,272 passengers which create a ratio of one crew member for every 2.2 passengers when all the cabins have double occupancy. There are four pools on the ship, the Riviera, which has two hot tubs, the Lotus Spa pool which also boasts two hot tubs, and the Sanctuary, an adults-only area. The Lotus Spa gym and fitness area has a well-equipped gym. Other sports facilities include basketball, paddle tennis, a jogging track, shuffleboard, a volleyball court and golf. There is a generous amount of deck space for sunbathing and a wide wraparound promenade deck. As with all Princess Cruise liners there is a supervised play area with activities and distractions for youngsters of different age groups - from a doll’s house and a video games arcade, to a splash pool and a teen disco. The dress code is casual and comfortable during the day. Evening dress codes range from semi-formal, where gentleman are required to wear a jacket and tie, to formal evenings where a dinner suit or a dark suit is required of men and ladies are expected to wear a cocktail dress.

This ship has 1,001 cabins, 410 of them have balconies and another 193 have ocean views. All cabins are medium sized but well-designed with plenty of storage space and a fridge and TV. Two single beds can be converted into a queen sized double. Bathrooms are compact but have a good sized shower. In the mini suites and suites with balconies, the bathrooms have a bathtub and a separate shower plus a sitting area for entertaining.

The main dining rooms are named the Florentine and the Venetian. Passengers are likely to have the same waiter for the duration of their cruise to ensure a personal service. Both dining rooms can accommodate all of the ship's passengers in two sitting and the food, presentation and service is good. There are a further three dining options with two of them adopting a less formal approach. The Sterling steakhouse is a fine dining alternative and the Horizon Buffet offers hot food on a 24-hour basis. There is also a pizzeria and a patisserie, and for those quiet nights in the cabin, 24-hour room service is also available.
