Why choose Norwegian Sky?

Norwegian Cruise Line ships are unlike any other cruise line, both inside and out. The Norwegian Sky is a floating resort designed for fun in the sun, sailing from its Miami home port on a series of short cruises to the Bahamas. There is plenty of contrast between the paradise island life and the fun-packed cruise liner bursting with accommodation, dining and leisure activity options. Built in 1999, the ship was refurbished ten years later to maintain the standards that have helped Norwegian Cruise Line forge a reputation as the alternative cruise line that dispenses with some of the more stuffy elements associated with its rivals.

Destinations and itineraries

The ship’s itinerary only changes slightly between three and four day cruises between Miami and the Bahamas. Passengers from the UK fly to Miami and spend the night in a hotel before embarkation the next day. On the second day of the cruise the ship arrives at Freeport in the Bahamas, giving passengers a chance to explore the shopping bazaars, beautiful Caribbean beaches and the casinos.

The next day the Norwegian Sky moors at Great Stirrup Cay, the private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, which has something for everyone - whether it is the world’s largest inflatable water slide, white sandy beaches or watersports and parasailing. The next port of call is back in the Bahamas at Nassau, with its marine park, duty-free shops and excursions to the Atlantis resort or a jeep tour of the island. The sixth day of the holiday the ship returns to Miami for the return flight back to the UK. On shorter cruises the ship misses out Freeport.

Set sail for family fun in the sun onboard the Norwegian Sky, a floating resort from Norwegian Cruise Line where no two days are ever the same.

The ship has two swimming pools out on deck and The Body Waves Fitness Centre is the place where passengers can work out and take in the scenery. Other sports facilities include a sports court for basketball and volleyball, golf driving nets, five outdoor hot tubs and a jogging track. The Mandara Spa offers treatments from around the world to rejuvenate body and spirit.

Young passengers have their own range of activities on board the Norwegian Sky. There are extensive organised activities for all age groups between two and 17 either at the Kids Club and splash pool or the Zone teen area. Face painting, treasure hunts, video games, volleyball and teen discos are among the attractions supervised by dedicated staff.

Norwegian Cruise Line are famous for the choices on board and there are 987 cabins on board - 257 have private balconies and a further 306 ocean views. These cabins are on the small side but have adequate storage space for the ship’s short itineraries. Cabins with balconies have a bit more room. Suites vary in size from just over 400 sq ft to the larger 835 sq ft Owners Suites which can sleep up to five people and include a separate living room and dining room and a private butler service. Complimentary room service is available in all staterooms.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s freestyle cruising package sets it apart from other cruise lines and has attracted younger passengers as a result. The traditional experience is still available in the large Crossings and Palace dining rooms, which serve award-winning food. The Garden Café is one of the complimentary alternatives and offers a hot and cold buffet where guests can sit indoors or out on deck. For a quick snack, pizza is served round the clock for a small additional charge.

For something much more upmarket, passengers can head to Cagney’s steakhouse for prime cuts of beef cooked exactly the way you want them. A range of sophisticated cocktails can be served as guests wait. A $30 charge is added to the bill for a guest eating here. European cuisine options are also available. Le Bistro is Norwegian Cruise Line’s nod to France, serving modern and classic French gourmet food for an extra $20. Contemporary Italian cuisine is on the menu here, served in a modern setting with floor to ceiling windows offering spectacular views of the ocean.

Dress code is casual and comfortable during the day and smart casual in the evenings. There are formal nights, where men are expected to wear a dinner suit or dark suit and ladies wear a cocktail dress, but this is a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise so passengers are free to opt out of the traditional requirements.
