Why choose Norwegian Pearl?

Norwegian Cruise Line rewrote the rule book when it comes to cruising. It has perfected a seductive mix of the more fun traditions of a cruise holiday and introduced so many innovations that the rest of the cruise line industry has struggled to keep pace. The Norwegian Pearl is a modern ship offering passengers an impressive choice of leisure activities and dining options.

Destinations and Itineraries

Passengers on this ship can witness first-hand the variations in both the landscape and climate of North and Central America. Up until September the Norwegian Pearl sails from its Seattle home port on a seven night Alaska cruise. For travellers flying from the UK, a hotel stay in Seattle precedes the departure to Alaska via Canada, offering a glimpse of the frozen wilds of this scarcely populated corner of the continent.

Ports of call include Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan in Alaska, before returning to Seattle via Victoria Island off the Canadian coast. This itinerary is repeated until late September when the ship heads to Miami via the Panama Canal. There are 19 nights on board this cruise which makes 10 ports of call including the iconic cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, four ports of call in Mexico, Puntarenas in Costa Rica, Panama Cartagena in Colombia and finally Miami.

After a brief two night Bahamas cruise the ship spends the winter months repeating a seven night Western Caribbean cruise from its new home port of Miami. Typically four ports of call are made to the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and the Mexican island of Cozumel. Belize and Key West feature on alternative itineraries.

There are three swimming pools on this ship - two out on deck and a smaller one inside - as well as six Jacuzzis. The indoor South Pacific spa and beauty salon has treatment room and there is a sauna plus yoga, aerobics facilities and fitness programmes for all passengers. For the sports fans, there is a jogging track, volleyball, golf, basketball and table tennis. A sauna and steam room complete the offering but still leaves room for enough deck space for sunbathing. Children are equally entertained on board the Norwegian Pearl. You’ll find supervised activities, a childcare centre, teens video zone and a dedicated pool - all ensuring that children’s facilities on this ship are rated as very good. The dress code on board is casual and comfortable during the day and in the evenings dress is smart casual. The formal evenings require a dinner suit or dark suit for the men and a cocktail dress for ladies, but as this is a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise, passengers can opt out and have fewer outfits to pack.

The Norwegian Pearl is a large cruise ship that attracts an American and international clientele drawn to its freestyle cruising package and the wealth of on board activities. Built in 2006, it has 1,233 cabins and just under half of these have balconies with an additional 263 benefitting from an ocean view. Standard cabins are small but have sufficient storage for the typical duration of a Norwegian Pearl Cruise - typically seven nights. Balcony cabins are a little more generously proportioned. Bathrooms to all cabins are well-designed and compact. For a price there are much roomier options, the most spacious being the Haven three bedroom garden villa which can sleep up to eight people. This option includes a living room, a dining room and a private garden, as well as access to a private courtyard area.

Norwegian Cruise Line ships are famed for their choice of dining options and for not being so rigidly tied to the formal dining options that form the basis of nearly every other cruise line. There are formal options in the Steak, French and Asian restaurants and then freestyle choice in the Summer Palace and Indigo main restaurants. The Garden Café Food Court, the indoor and outdoor buffet, Italian restaurant and the poolside grill area are some of this ship’s informal dining alternatives. After dinner entertainment is provided in the three –tier Stardust Theatre. Passengers who want to entertain as much as be entertained can head straight to the karaoke bar! Other distractions include a cinema, library and casino.
