Holland America Line boasts a 15-strong fleet of five star elegant, mid-sized ships which range in capacity from 835-2,106 guests and cater for the more discerning worldwide traveller.  Product delivery is of the same high standards throughout the fleet, however the larger ships offer more balcony accommodation and cater for a slightly younger clientele typically aged between 40 and 60 - although families are welcome. The official currency onboard is the US$, however Holland America Line’s Dutch ancestry and increasing popularity in the UK means that guests will hail from all over Europe as well as further afield.

Each ship offers the last word in luxury, their distinctive navy hulls signifying a more classic cruising experience with well-chosen antiques adding to the ambience of elegant public spaces and tasteful interiors.

The latest “Signature” and “Vista” class ships, Nieuw Amsterdam, Eurodam,  Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam  feature deck upon deck of spacious staterooms with private balcony as well as an enhanced choice of dining and leisure amenities.  Smaller ships include flagships ms Rotterdam and ms Amsterdam, which offer “liner” voyages and the 835-guest “elegant explorer” ms Prinsendam which has a very loyal repeat clientele.

Itineraries vary from Mediterranean cruises to South American Cruises and from Alaska cruises to worldwide cruises. The fleet has a presence in the Pacific, the Panama Canal, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, the Far East, the Black Sea, Australia, the Atlantic Islands and the Arctic.

The latest addition to the fleet, launched in July 2010 is the “Signature-class” 2,106-guest ms Nieuw Amsterdam featuring décor and art that reflects the glamour and history of the city of New York, originally settled by Dutch colonists.  As on all Holland America Line ships, staterooms are spacious, well appointed and include flat screen TV’s and DVD players.

All Holland America Line ships are rated as five star premium in the mid-size category, carrying between 835 and 2,106 guests, Amenities vary slightly from ship to ship, for example the six newest “Vista” and “Signature” class ships carry around 2,000 guests and 800 crew members making a ratio of one crew member for 2.8 passengers, offering more dining choices and decks of staterooms with private balcony. The new “Pinnacle-class” ms Koningsdam will accommodate 2,604 guests, still categorised as mid-sized however with an extra deck which allows new dining, entertainment and stateroom innovations. By day guests may enjoy demonstrations in the Culinary Arts Centre, Digital workshops by Windows®, “On Location” destination enrichment events and talks.  The Explorations Cafe, powered by the New York Times features internet stations, a library, puzzles and a coffee bar. By night full production West End style shows take place in the main theatre, with more music (from piano tunes, big band sound to the classical Lincoln Centre Stage) in bars and lounges throughout the ship.  Holland America Line features “Dancing with the Stars at Sea” (the ABC TV version of Strictly Come Dancing), where guests can learn to waltz or tango or partner with professionals for the ultimate dance competition at sea.  The six larger ships also feature the cabaret-style Queen’s Show Lounge, home to the popular BB Kings Blues Band, while there’s also a cinema and casino.

All ships feature two pools, one with a retractable glass dome, plus ample deck space, jacuzzis, the Greenhouse Spa & Salon. You’ll also find a hydro pool, observation deck, basket and volleyball courts, Saunas and steam rooms on board.

All ships have a teak wraparound promenade deck, perfect for an evening's stroll before heading to dinner.

Club HAL features a wide variety of supervised daytime entertainment for children aged 3-17 in different age groups with activities ranging from pizza making and “Little Artists” crafts to karaoke dance parties and culinary workshops for teens who also have their own area of the ship, The Loft & Oasis.

All ships feature a two level dining room at the stern, a design signature of Holland America Line, offering a choice of “As you Wish” or fixed dining, great food and service. Dress code ranges from smart casual to formal evenings twice per week where black tie for men and a cocktail dress for women is suggested. For informal dining there’s the Lido for delicious buffet choices, gourmet burgers on deck and the Italian Canaletto*, which features small plate sharing menus, while the Pinnacle Grill* offers delicious steaks and seafood in an intimate setting (*Cover charge applies).  Ms Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam also feature a the Tamarind Pan-Asian restaurant, while ms Koningsdam will offer a twist on familiar dining options as well as brand new speciality restaurants.
