Where is Hot in December?

Come December, lazy summer days will be a distant memory and your days will be filled with frantic, last-minute Christmas shopping in cold, wet and windy weather. But there’s no need to let the build up to Christmas stress you out too much. Instead, why not book yourself a well-earned winter holiday and take a break from the madness? You don’t have to wait until next summer to get your next fix of sunshine. Take a look below at my suggestions for where is hot in December to help inspire your winter getaway.

Mexico – Average highs of 28⁰C in December

If you’re looking for a winter sun holiday that is a little further away than your usual mid-haul options, head to Mexico where you will enjoy an average high temperature of around 28⁰C in December. Be wowed by the pure white sand and turquoise waters of beautiful beaches such as Akumal and Playa Maroma; get up close and personal with dolphins or get a bit of culture on your holiday by visiting one of the many Mayan ruins such as the world renowned Chichen Itza.

Cape Verde – Average highs of 26⁰C in December

With average high temperatures of 26⁰C in December, Cape Verde is the perfect place to be jetting off to if you want to escape the cold weather back home. It’s only a 6 hour flight from the UK and only one hour behind us, so there’ll be no jet lag, but you’ll feel like you’ve landed in the Caribbean! Enjoy excellent water sports, go whale and turtle spotting or simply relax and soak up the warm winter rays on the 11 kilometres of golden, sandy beaches.

The Gambia – Average highs of 31⁰C in December

The Gambia is one of our hottest winter sun destinations, with temperatures reaching a scorching 31⁰C in December. It also benefits from being in the same time zone as the UK, making it another destination where jet lag won’t be an issue. If you don’t want to spend all of your time on the brilliant beaches, The Gambia is famous for both its bird watching and also its crocodile pools, which are well worth checking out – the most famous one being in Bakau.

Lanzarote – Average highs of 21⁰C in December

You’ll find pleasant, warm weather throughout the winter in Lanzarote and December temperatures tend to be around the 21⁰C mark. There are plenty of great beaches in Lanzarote, but the island is the perfect size to get out and explore a little further. Visit the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands; taste some great wines in La Geria or take a camel ride into the Fire Mountains of Timanfaya National Park. You can even visit neighbouring Fuerteventura for the day if you wish!

Gran Canaria – Average highs of 22⁰C in December

There is a resort for everyone in Gran Canaria; and if you head to the island in the month of December, you’ll be able to enjoy comfortable, warm temperatures of around 22⁰C whilst exploring everything that’s on offer to you. Hike the breath-taking volcanic landscapes; visit popular harbour towns such as Puerto Rico or the beautiful Puerto Mogan or scale magnificent, golden sand dunes before taking a well-earned rest on one of the many superb beaches.
