As one of America‘s top holiday destinations and one of the country’s biggest metropolitan areas, it should come as no surprise that Miami has an excellent shopping scene. From luxury designer outlets to big Miami shopping malls and thriving markets, it has it all. Many of the malls here also have ample indoor space, cinemas and entertainment complexes, so if you get caught in a rain shower, you’ll always know where to go for shelter. You’ll also find air-conditioning in virtually every retail space, too, so you can always get away from the humidity whenever it feels a bit too sticky.
Whether you’re into luxury designer shops, international department stores, or some good old souvenir shops for all your holiday gifts, shopping in Miami gives you endless choice. Here are some of the best places to shop in the city:
The Bayside Market Place
In Downtown Miami, right in the heart of all the action, Bayside Marketplace is a vibrant waterside shopping centre where you can find well-known retail brands selling everything from jewellery and electronics to sports goods and children’s apparel. When you’re ready to take a break from the shops, have a bit to eat at one of the many cafés or restaurants, go on a bike ride with Bike & Roll Miami, or try a thriller speed boat adventure if you’re seeking an adrenaline boost.
Brickell City Centre
Come to the oldest shopping mall in Miami. The Brickell City Centre, also in Downtown, is a place where style has no labels, where fashion-conscious shoppers have access to four levels of luxury. From exquisite jewellery and cosmetics to made-to-measure fashionware and health products, you never run out of options here. At lunchtime, dine in style and choose from delicious seafood, sushi, vegan cuisine or other international dishes to recharge your batteries before a long afternoon of more shopping. Like Bayside, Brickell City Centre is a good place to go before or after you visit some of Miami’s museums and art galleries nearby.
The shops at Midtown Miami
Another place that’s definitely among the best places to shop in Miami is Midtown. You’ll find more trendy outlets and well-known retail brands at the Shops at Midtown Miami on North Miami Avenue, the city’s main arts district. Grab something to eat at one of the cafés or restaurants nearby whenever you need a break from the shops.
The Miami Design District
With more designer shops and high-end eateries, the Miami Design District is perfect for a long, lazy afternoon. It’s under three miles from Downtown Miami, and within easy reach of the city’s business district and luxury hotels.
One of the most luxurious shopping malls in Miami, the Aventura Mall has half a dozen department stores which include world-famous brands like Macy’s and Nordstrom. You’ll also find high-end boutiques such as Burberry and Louis Vuitton, a dozen restaurants, and a 24-screen AMC Movie Theatre if you fancy watching a film. If you’re a family with children, you can take a break at the superb interactive playground, too.
The Dolphin Mall
If you’re looking for a bit of everything whilst shopping in Miami and don’t mind heading away from the centre of the city, visit Dolphin Mall, five miles from Miami International Airport. For the fashion conscious, there’s the Moda (Style) section, where you’ll find plenty of stylish boutiques and fashion outlets, and for the casual shopper there’s Playa (Beach), where you can browse a wide range of casual apparel and accessories. When you’re hungry, simply head to the Ramblas (Walk) where you’ll find some excellent restaurants serving various cuisines from European and Asian to South American. The mall also has several entertainment venues and a special race-track design, so you’ll never get lost.
Bal Harbour Shops
Dating back to the 1960s, the Bal Harbour Shops is a 450,000-square-foot open-air mall with more than 100 shops ranging from famous department stores to designer boutiques. It’s one of the best places to shop in Miami if you’re staying in one of the luxury beach-front resorts in this area.
The Miami International Mall
If you could choose only one place to do your shopping in Miami, pick the Miami International Mall, which includes more than one million square feet of retail space! This is a spot for serious shoppers, and you’ll find all the biggest retailers like JCPenney and Macy’s, more than 20 great restaurants, and over 140 top boutiques. You could easily spend the whole day right here.
This stunning water-themed mall is an amazing open-air venue in South Miami, and has even more luxury brands and restaurants serving different international cuisine. Watch a movie at the Regal Cinema, or take the children to the Build-a-Bear Workshop. See the beautiful fountains and tropical gardens, too, and don’t forget to visit the Fresh Market for some wonderful local produce.
The Lincoln Road Mall
Another big outdoor Miami shopping mall with lots of name-brand retailers, Lincoln Road Mall near Collins Avenue in Miami Beach is a popular shopping spot. It has a wide selection of alfresco cafés, too, so you can always stop for a coffee and a pastry. This pedestrianised mile-long promenade is home to some of Miami’s best restaurants, which serve everything from brick-oven-made pizzas to authentic Cuban dishes. Lincoln Road is also well known for being one of the best people-watching places in Miami, and you’ll see shoppers from all walks of life here, from celebrities to street artists.
In Coral Gables, just to the south of Miami, Miracle Mile has a broad range of locally owned boutiques and bridal salons along its scenic, tree-lined streets. Downtown Coral Gables is one of Florida’s hottest shopping areas, and is famous for its high standards of customer service.
In trendy South Beach, Sunset Harbour is one of the best places to shop in Miami for all your beachwear. It’s also popular with fashionistas looking for a decent mix of high-end shops and bargain boutiques. This neighbourhood has some excellent eateries, juice bars, regular bars, and gyms, too.
