Orlando waterparks are the best places to cool off in the Florida sun. They’re great fun for couples as well as families with little ones, who understandably get a bit restless in the summer heat. Orlando is home to lots of parks, such as Typhoon Lagoon, Aquatica and Orlando’s newest addition, Universal’s Volcano Bay™. I love the idea of visiting one of the parks because they’ve got their own unique theme, like a little world within themselves. There are amazing water rides, lots of restaurants and so many other fantastic things to do. Spend a day at an Orlando waterpark to soak up the unique atmosphere and splash about.
For the little ones
If you’re thinking of taking the kids on a week or two away, you might feel a bit limited with your options to keep them entertained in the heat. Luckily, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has something for all ages, with a range of rides for everyone from tots to teenagers. The centrepiece of Typhoon Lagoon is the huge surf pool, which is the largest wave pool in North America. The waves reach six feet tall, but don’t feel daunted, as you can always splash around with your toddler in the shallows.
Ketchakiddee Creek is a water wonderland for smaller explorers. There are 10 different activities they can experience, like splashy slides, water cannons and a mini river rapids ride. With snapping crocodile sculptures and fun fountains, it’s so easy for toddlers to enjoy the sun at an Orlando waterpark. Looking for another excuse to cool down? Visit Happy Landings Ice Cream for sundaes and sprinkles.
For the wild ones
If you’re feeling extra adventurous on your holiday to Orlando, Aquatica is the place to go for supersize splashes and big screams. This Orlando waterpark is home to the tallest, most thrilling water ride in the city. Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the park’s famous tube ride with sheer drops, twists and turns which all the adrenaline junkies will love. Perfect for families with older kids, and couples, Aquatica’s 42 slides, rivers and lagoons will leave you with memories that’ll last a lifetime.
For a river rapid ride like you’ve never experienced, Roa’s Rapids are three times faster than the average waterpark river. Battle against the high tides and swirling waves that feel like a real white water expedition. All this adventure sounds like hungry work, so make sure you visit the Banana Beach Cookout for an all-you-can-eat feast. Enjoy a fantastic buffet which includes pulled pork, baked chicken, hot dogs, pizza and an array of sides and desserts.
For the family
A trip to Universal’s Volcano Bay™ is the perfect family retreat. With its tropical vibe and swaying palm trees, you’ll feel more like you’re in the Caribbean than in the centre of an Orlando waterpark. With 18 incredible attractions, you’ll be able to experience everything from wild water rides to peaceful chill-out zones. However, if you’re all looking for a thrill, the Krakatau Aqua Coaster is a four-person canoe ride which dips and dives through the park’s volcano, before drenching you underneath a waterfall.
If you’d rather relax, head to the sparkling shores of Waturi Beach with its warm waters that flow down from the Krakatau volcano. Chilling out is key at Volcano Bay, and worrying about ride queues is a thing of the past with TapuTapu. Use your waterproof bracelet around the park to hold your place in line, so you can make the most of your day without any rushing around.
Which one of these sounds perfect for you? Have you been before and decided on your favourite? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments.
