Turkey is one of the most popular destinations for British holidaymakers and it’s easy to see why. The country offers something for everybody, no matter what your style, taste or budget – from beautiful beaches and breathtaking scenery to adrenaline fuelled activities and a rich culture to delve into and explore. With so many great resorts on offer, it can be difficult to choose which one to settle on for your all-important holiday, so we’ve done the hard bit for you. We’ve outlined some of the best bits about our favourite places to help you decide which resort in Turkey is right for you.
Perfect for Families and Fun Fanatics – Marmaris
Marmaris is the place to be if you want non-stop fun and a never ending list of activities to take part in. The resort offers great, family-friendly beaches to splash around and have fun on. If you prefer to make a bigger splash, head to the Atlantis Waterpark and race down the many winding flumes and slides. The area is great for diving and there are even day trips to explore underwater caves. Be sure to check out the dancing fountains whilst you’re there and for those wanting to party until the early hours of the morning, there’s an excellent selection of bars and nightclubs on the bustling Marmaris Bar Street. Perfect for Thrill Seekers – Ӧlü Deniz
Ӧlü Deniz is home to the most photographed beach in all of Turkey – the stunning Blue Lagoon. The name Ӧlü Deniz literally translates as ‘dead sea’, due to the area’s calm and clear turquoise waters, making it the ideal place to relax in the sea, soaking up the warm, Mediterranean sun. It’s in the air, though, where all the action takes place. The resort is famous for its incredible paragliding opportunities, where you can soar above the infamous teardrop-shaped beach and take in the breathtaking scenery of the Lycian coast below you. Alternatively, head out on an action-packed jeep safari and explore the fascinating history of the surrounding countryside.
Perfect for Luxury Lovers – Bodrum
Head to Bodrum and you could potentially be brushing shoulders with the rich and famous. If you don’t see any celebrities on your holiday here, you can guarantee that you will at least feel like one in this opulent and trendy resort. Bodrum is often referred to as the St. Tropez of Turkey and is similarly awash with lavish yachts and boasting a picturesque harbour as its centrepiece. The main attraction is the medieval Castle of St. Peter, which is home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and stands proud for all to see, out in the middle of the harbour.
Perfect for History Buffs – Antalya
Nicknamed ‘the Pearl of the Mediterranean’, the ancient city of Antalya is bursting with history but is tastefully modern at the same time. The biggest draw in the city has to be to the well preserved, historical old town – Kaleiçi, which translates simply as ‘within the castle’. Explore all the cobbled side alleys to find the best hidden gems and be sure to visit one of the many 18th century Ottoman wooden houses. Antalya isn’t just about the history, though – you can also expect to find stunning landscapes and incredible beaches such as Lara Beach for when you just want to relax.
This is just a handful of some of the incredible resorts Turkey has to offer. There are plenty of other great places to explore, including resorts such as Dalaman, Fethiye, Ovacik or Izmir. Where is your favourite resort in Turkey? And why is it your favourite? Comment below and let us know!
