With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought you could use a little romantic inspiration for if you’re planning on getting down on one knee this year. Maybe you feel that proposing on Valentine’s Day is a bit too cliché. So why not throw your partner off the scent, buy the usual flowers and chocolates, and start planning the ultimate holiday to whisk them away and pop the question?
The stakes are high; maybe you’re trying to outdo a friend’s proposal? You’re thinking the top of the Eiffel Tower or a gondola ride through the Venetian Canals. They’ve got to be some of the most romantic places, right?
Don’t get me wrong, these are stunning destinations. I’ve been lucky enough to visit both of them myself and they are well worth visiting. But if you’re looking for somewhere a bit different, I’ve picked out a few truly romantic destinations to give you some alternative ideas. Take your other half away to one of these breathtaking places and they’re bound to say yes.
This stunning, crescent-shaped island is set apart from the rest and is the most romantic of the Greek islands. Picture perfect sunsets, beautiful scenery and quaint, white-washed buildings add to the appeal of this mystical island. It’s also popular for weddings too, so if they do say yes, you could even see yourself returning here for the big day.
Khao Lak, Thailand
The big draw to Khao Lak is the miles and miles of stunning, unspoilt coastline and lush, green forest. That’s why I think this makes it an amazing place for a proposal. You’ll have no problem finding a quiet, secluded beach to declare your love. Then, as the sun sets over the tranquil turquoise sea, enjoy a romantic meal on the beach and raise a toast to your impending nuptials.
The Grand Canyon, USA
It’s hard to describe in a few words, the sheer beauty of this national park. One of the seven wonders of the natural world, the Grand Canyon has to feature in my list. You could take an amazing helicopter tour and propose in mid-air. Or step out onto the Skywalk and get down on one knee to propose overlooking this incredible gorge.
The garden isle of Kauai in Hawaii gets its name from the lush green tropical rainforest that covers most of the island. With a stunning, rugged coastline and a spectacular mountainous backdrop, you’ve got all the makings of a romantic pacific hideaway. Paddle a kayak made for two through the Waialua River or take a wander in the forest. Your significant other is bound to say yes when you present them with a dazzling ring under a spectacular waterfall.
Where would be your dream place to pop the question? Or maybe you’ve already proposed to your other half whilst abroad? Tell me all about it in the comments below.
