#1/ Sun cream
Although it may seem obvious, sun cream’s something you just can’t go without. I’m sure that lots of us have been guilty of sitting on a deck chair out in the garden without giving a second thought to the sun, just because we’re not on holiday. So go on, slather it on, and make sure you reapply it every few hours or after you’ve had a swim and towelled off. Don’t forget, you can use your Feelunique voucher towards a bottle of sun cream!
I know the thought of heading inside when you’re on holiday seems strange, but catching some Zs in the middle of the day really helps to keep you safe in the sun. Nap between 11am-1pm for the best chance of avoiding the dreaded sunburn. This tip is especially good for little ones who are known for getting restless and irritable in the heat; happy baby, happy holiday.
There are all kinds of cool sunglasses styles are around at the moment, but are they actually doing their job of blocking the sun’s rays? Here’s what to look out for: a sticker on the lens which says that you’re protected from 99% to 100% of both UVA and UVB light. A pair with UV 400 is also a great one to pick up, as it blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometres (ooh fancy!).
In all seriousness, heatstroke can be very dangerous and even life threatening, which is why you need to stay hydrated to keep your body’s core temperature from getting too high. And that doesn’t mean sipping on some All Inclusive strawberry daiquiris. In fact, the best thing to do is to freeze some water overnight, and then sip the bottle as it defrosts. It’ll stay cool and so will you.
There’s nothing worse than finding the perfect sunbed spot with no umbrella. With our Choose Your Sunbed service, you’ll be able to guarantee your spot for the whole holiday at selected hotels. There’s even a floor plan which shows where the sun travels throughout the day, so you can find that ideal balance between the sun and the shade.
I hope you’ve found my five sun safety tips helpful. Do you have any of your own that you’d like to share? I’d love to see them in the comments below.
