There’s something about the start of spring that makes me want to get away to somewhere even warmer and sunnier. Believe it or not, there’s still time to book a holiday if you want to go before the summer season starts. So, where’s best to go in April? Whether you’re looking for a last-minute holiday or an Easter escape, I’m here to give you the low-down on the top destinations for your spring getaway.
One of the loveliest things about going on holiday at this time of year is that things are starting to warm up in Europe. And that means you don’t have to go far to find a beautiful place to relax under blue skies.
I recommend the island of Majorca for your April escape. You can get there in about two and a half hours, and it’s perfect for a holiday with little ones or to relax with your other half or your best friends. And, if you’re happy to spend just a little longer in the air, Tenerife’s another excellent choice, as the Canary Islands are warm all year round.
If you’re in the mood for all-out relaxation, the Red Sea Riviera has to be top of your list. Not only are the beaches just right for leisurely days of doing very little at all, you can also pick up the pace with a spot of snorkelling or scuba-diving, or even a must-do excursion to one of Egypt’s most famous places, such as Cairo or Luxor.
I was also really surprised to hear about the great nightlife in Hurghada, plus exciting waterparks to keep the kids happy. Even better, as this is another year-round destination, the weather’s perfect for a holiday in April.
I’m really excited to include this one on my list, as one of my favourite ever holidays was to Mexico. We stayed in Cancun, where the beaches are really long and there’s an amazing choice of hotels right by the Caribbean Sea. From playing volleyball on the sand to visiting the jaw-dropping pyramids at Chichen Itza, we had an incredible time. I’m certain you will too, when you go there this spring.
Plus, with average temperatures of 32˚C in April, you’re pretty much guaranteed awesome holiday weather!
I’ve saved Morocco till last as it’s got a prime spot on my own bucket list. The scenery looks gorgeous and the culture’s so fascinating. I can’t wait to be able to visit there myself, especially the medieval city of Marrakech. There are authentic markets (known as souks) to browse, a maze of alleyways to explore and enticing street food to tuck into.
Worried you might have had enough of city life and sightseeing after a couple of days? Well, outside the walls of the old city, Marrakech’s modern district is like a whole other world. For me, that means I’m definitely going to plan in some spa time while I’m there, and I’ve heard the nightlife’s not to be missed.
I hope this helps you decide where to take your holiday this April. Have you been to any of my top picks before? Tell me all about it in the comments below; I’m always on the look-out for new recommendations.
