With its long sandy beach, year-round sunshine and vibrant town centre, Puerto Del Carmen is a fantastic base for your Lanzarote holiday. Whether you fancy a couple of hours of window shopping or want to really dive in head first and discover the local products, Puerto Del Carmen shopping is a must-do activity.
If you want to do some serious shopping, Biosfera Plaza is the place to be. For the latest trends and beautiful clothes, you’re spoilt for choice. Pick up a bargain in a boutique, or try on some high-end fashion labels at great prices. For a unique experience, visit Natura, a shop where all your senses will be tingled or go all girly in an independent boutique filled with jewellery, scarves and bags.
If you’ve got the children with you, level-up family time by taking everyone to the amazing rooftop Minigolf Jurassic Kingdom. This Jurassic Park themed mini golf terrace means you can putt balls while having fun in the early evening warmth. If you want a really magical experience, stick around for the rooftop Starlight open air cinema with English films, wireless headphones, and comfy sofas.
Puerto Del Carmen shopping is out of this world in Biosfera Plaza, and you won’t go hungry either. From pizzas to noodles, the plaza has lots of delicious restaurants and we recommend eating up on the rooftop where the menu has everything from paninis and wraps to beers and cocktails.
Shopping in Puerto Del Carmen town
Outside Biosfera Plaza there are still plenty of smaller shops and local boutiques to explore. When you’re taking a break from the beach, pop into the pretty souvenirs shops in Puerto Del Carmen’s winding lanes and invest in a huge sunhat and a bottle of locally made aloe vera after-sun cream.
There are so many bars and cafés in this sun-filled town that stopping off for a light lunch of local seafood or Canarian potatoes is easy. There are plenty of ice cream parlours to satisfy the children while you can enjoy the tiny espressos and 20cl beers that are perfect for a refreshing afternoon drink.
Here you can buy postcards and souvenirs and sit at a street café to write to your friends and family back home. Buy your stamps from the local Correos (the Spanish Post Office) which are found in most towns and is right next to Biosfera Plaza in Puerto Del Carmen. Be careful not to buy them from tourist shops as you may get sold far pricier tourist stamps. Spotting Correos buildings is easy as they have bright yellow signs.
Embracing the low taxes while shopping in Puerto Del Carmen
While the Canary Islands are part of Spain, they actually fall outside of the EU for customs purposes so you can’t take home an unlimited amount of duty-free goods. However, everyone does have an allowance so you can still make the most of the duty-free status of many products in Lanzarote.
Check the customs advice when you leave but currently you can only take home 1 litre of spirits, so pick your Spanish spirit wisely! The Spanish love perfume and there are some great perfume shops in Puerto Del Carmen so spend a couple of hours choosing your new signature scent. The Canary Islands enjoy low taxes on many other goods too, even those which aren’t duty-free. So you can enjoy low prices while you’re out there, especially on food.
Explore Puerto Del Carmen Market
Canarian markets are great places to indulge a love of shopping and also get to grips with the local culture. The Canarians will be the first to say they have a different culture to Spain! Every Friday, Plaza Varadero is the place to be for the Puerto Del Carmen market. In a beautiful setting, you can see island-grown produce, pick up a couple of jars of mojo sauce and choose the best handicrafts and souvenirs to decorate your mantelpiece back home. The markets in Lanzarote are one of the best ways to shop.
When you and your family head to Puerto Del Carmen, you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic holiday. With a golden sand beach, warm water to swim in, endless cafés and restaurants and of course, the great Puerto Del Carmen market and shopping, there’s lots to do. Next stop, stick the shopping bags in the hotel room and head out on a boat trip!
