As some of you might know, today is International Women’s Day: a day to celebrate all the things that makes us proud to be women, or all the reasons you’re proud to know them if you’re not one yourself! Something I loved watching recently was the new Nike advert, entitled ‘Dream Crazier’. Voiced by Serena Williams, it considers how far we’ve come not just in sport, but society in general. And when times get tough, I always reach for inspirational pick-me-ups like these to feel a bit better, one of which is by Serena herself:
“I think in life you should work on yourself until the day you die.”
It reminds me I’m always a work in progress and not to be too hard on myself, plus I think being in competition with yourself is great trait to have! I’ve listed some more sayings and quotes that I love below, and it’d be great to see your favourites in the comments too.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.” – Maya Angelou
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” – Anais Nin
“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” – Nora Ephron
“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” – Maya Angelou
“Kindness is always fashionable, and always welcome.” – Amelia Barr
“The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” – Ayn Rand
“When someone tells me “no,” it doesn’t mean I can’t do it, it simply means I can’t do it with them.” – Karen E. Quinones Miller
Believing in yourself
“Be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.” – Judy Garland
“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” – Suzy Kassem
“Some people say that I have an attitude. Maybe I do. But I think that you have to. You have to believe in yourself when no one else does; that makes you a winner right there.” – Venus Williams
I hope these positive thoughts give you a boost today, just in time for whatever you’ve got planned this weekend. How are you celebrating the women in your life today? Let me know in the comments below!
