The captivating island of Sicily is sure to charm you with its mountainous landscapes and scenic coastlines, like it did me. Plus, the historic monuments that have a unique story to tell. Sicily is sure to fill your day with endless opportunities for everyone wanting a relaxing break away. You can go from over 3,000m high, exploring the crater of Mount Etna to ground level on a nice romantic stroll down the beaches of Sicily.
On the first day, I was awoke to the impressive sights of the snow-capped volcano of Mount Etna. This was soon to be replaced just a few hours later by yet another spectacular view, the Amalfi coastline. Where to be honest, I literally saw endless rows of colourful plants and over the cliffs edge, lots of rock formations.
History and culture
Take a trip down memory lane as you enter the historical venues that Sicily has to offer. Begin with an easily accessible yet remarkable adventure through the town of Pompeii, where I stumbled across the Herculaneum. What grabbed my attention as I toured around it, was that this ancient landmark was once devastated in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Follow my footsteps and be sure to check out the Ancient Greek theatre of Taormina. With its spectacular views of both the sea and Mount Etna, Taormina is the picture-perfect Sicilian town. Beautifully positioned to overlook the sea, I was taken aback by the unimaginable scenes of the mountain tops in the distance.
Food and drink
Being an island, it is no surprise that fish is popular. But, there was also plenty of mouth-watering dishes that tempted me. The fabulous cuisine of Sicily spoilt me for choice, I was torn between pizza and pasta providing its typical uniqueness of Italian style. Without a doubt, on your trip you’ll be wanting to treat yourself to a tasty dessert. So why not go for the coffee-flavoured tiramisu, a famous Italian pudding? Made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa. You’ll be walking away feeling heavily satisfied with your experience as it certainly did me from day one.
The beautiful island of Sicily is perfect for a memorable luxury holiday. From hotels to villas, you’ll have no trouble seeing the combination of luxury and setting that Sicily has to offer. It goes without saying that the people of Sicily are warm and welcoming allowing you to effortlessly indulge and relax with a photogenic landscape in the sun, you may even want to pick out your favourite book and drift away into imagination.
