Today marks International Women’s Day. And, well, being a woman myself, I thought I’d write about all the things that I think are important to women when going on holiday. I love nothing more than packing my case and heading to the sun, but there are definitely certain little things that make everything much better for us girls, and it’s often those little details that make all the difference to a great holiday. Here are eight things that I think make holidays extra special for women.
1) Handbags on planes
After spending ages at home trying desperately to cram the last of your belongings into your carry-on case, the last thing you want to be told at the departure gate is that you need to fit your handbag in there too. Luckily for us, with Thomas Cook Airlines, we can take a small handbag on board with us in addition to our case. No more embarrassing ourselves in front of our fellow passengers by showing our folded undies to the world as we open our case wide in the middle of the terminal building.
Of course, holidays are all about relaxation and recuperation; forgetting about the daily grind back home. And what better way to unwind than with a luxurious massage or spa treatment? If this sounds like your idea of heaven, then be sure to choose a hotel with excellent spa facilities. Or head to somewhere like Turkey and experience their incredible, foamy Turkish baths. You can even get an exfoliating treatment using ground coffee; it works wonders for your tan. Plus, you might be lucky like me and manage to convert your other half into a spa lover too!
3) Being mum
The most important job role a woman could ever have; being a mum puts your organisation skills to the test. But being a mum and successfully taking your young family on a stress-free holiday? Now that’s challenge. Well, actually, I’m afraid that’s where you’re wrong. We put a huge amount of effort into making sure everything is made easier for you and your little ones, such as being able to carry three out of the four following items onto the plane with you if you’re travelling with an infant: a car seat, a pushchair, a travel cot or an extra 10kg of hold baggage.
Now, I don’t know about you, but one thing I love about being on holiday is the opportunity to have a guilt-free drink (almost) whenever I want. I’m sure that’s the same for anyone, not just women, but I’d say women in particular are partial to a great cocktail. Depending on where you choose to go on holiday, you could book Bed & Breakfast, so you can spend your evenings sampling all the local bars and restaurants. Or opt for All Inclusive instead, so you don’t have to budget and can enjoy as many exotic cocktails that your hotel bar can provide. Within reason, of course.
5) Girls’ holidays
Going on holiday with your family or other half is all well and good, but sometimes it can be nice to get away on a holiday with friends and really let your hair down. If you’re looking for something glamorous, but with a great nightlife too, you’ll love the beautiful Greek island of Mykonos. Or for somewhere where you can just chill out on stunning beaches all day, head for the year-round sun of the Cape Verde islands. Or perhaps a little shopping break to Milan or Paris is in order?
The lead-up to any holiday is often just as exciting as the holiday itself. But packing? Not so much. Take the time to read all the details on your accommodation page in the brochure or online, as you’ll often find that things such as hairdryers, irons and sometimes even toiletries like shampoo and conditioner are included in your room; saving you valuable space in your suitcase. I’m a self-proclaimed packing pro; often packing for a week-long holiday with just hand luggage. So take a look at my handy packing list to help you make the most of your baggage allowance.
7) The weather
One of the key factors when planning a holiday is deciding where will be nice and hot. No one wants to escape the UK only to stay cooped up in your hotel playing dominos because the rain’s worse than back home. There’s nothing better than heading back to the office post-holiday with a golden tan, to the envy of all your colleagues. Whether you want to head somewhere in peak season or choose somewhere with year-round sun; we’ve got the tool to help you pick the destination to suit your perfect holiday weather.
8) A decent night’s sleep
There’s nothing in the world better than your own bed. So when you’re somewhere else in the world, making the most of a relaxing holiday, you want to make sure that your hotel bed is almost as good as the real thing. Well, I’ve got some news that might just interest you. If you book a holiday to stay at one of our SENTIDO Hotels & Resorts, you can take advantage of the special SENTIDO Pillow Menu. Like a nice firm pillow? No problem. Prefer your head to get lost in a soft bed of feathers? You’ve got it. There’ll be no rushing home to your own bed after trying this, that’s for sure.
