Dedicated follower of fashion…
If fashion is your thing, then you’ll be astonished at the sheer number of clothes shops in Ibiza. Since the 1960s the island has attracted the fashionable and the artistic, drawn to its laid-back, hippy vibe and of course by its beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets. The boutiques soon followed.
Today, you’re spoilt for choice. If you’re shopping in Ibiza and looking for high-end fashion labels, there are plenty of options, with Mayurka Ibiza a sure bet. With two stores located in Ibiza Town, it’s been an island mainstay for over 30 years and stocks some of the world’s most instantly recognisable brands.
Other independent boutiques to look for include Revolver, situated in Ibiza Town’s La Marina district and as stylish as they come, and Religion, an island outpost of the London-based men’s brand that’s part of the recent transformation of Vara de Rey, a shopping square in Ibiza Town.
Bag a bargain
If you prefer to save your pennies for the evening’s entertainment there are plenty of more affordable clothes shops in Ibiza too. Head to La Marina, one of the most popular shopping centres in Ibiza, and you’ll find more international brands, as well as a myriad of small shops populating the network of side streets. Grab some bargains and pick up shoes, bags and sunglasses for a few euros.
La Sirena is another safe bet if you’re looking for brand names at great prices. This home-grown store now boasts over 20 shopping centres in Ibiza, all stocking a range of cosmetics, clothing and sporting goods. If you want to effortlessly blend in with the locals then a visit to the picturesque Dalt Villa, the High Town, is a must. Here you’ll find ancient streets lined with independent shops, many of them selling the bohemian white cotton dresses, skirts, shirts and trousers that are an Ibiza staple.
Hippy hippy shake
A holiday in Ibiza wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of its famous hippy markets. If you’ve exhausted the bricks and mortar shops in Ibiza then a spot of al fresco shopping is what’s needed. Born from the island’s hippy movement that took root in the ‘60s, these markets are an ideal opportunity to enjoy the weather, pick up a few gifts (think tie-dye t-shirts and hand-made hammocks) and sample some local cuisine.
Las Dalias is one of Ibiza’s most famous markets, featuring over 200 stalls dotted among the palm trees, with massages and palm readings alongside the usual retail offerings. Las Dalias is also home to a night market during the summer months, which includes live music.
Punta Arabi, held at the Es Cana resort, is the oldest and largest of the hippy markets and when you’re shopping in Ibiza it’s one to add to your must-see list. It’s famous for its vibrant atmosphere and its huge selection of homemade souvenirs.
There are more than just hippy markets in Ibiza. The island is also home to a growing number of flea markets, called rastrillos, as well as those specialising in local arts and crafts (Ibiza is famous for its pottery) and eco-friendly items. Try the San Rafael and San Juan markets for an inspiring dose of local flavour and a shopping experience in Ibiza to remember.
