Here’s another insider’s guide to one of the best hotels from your favourite holiday destinations. Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso Hotel - Gran Canaria. Read on to discover the hotel’s facilities, the best beaches in the area and what to see and do nearby…
This 4* development is perched at the top of the cliff so every room has uninterrupted sea views that you can enjoy from a balcony or a terrace. Block 4 has especially good views of the glorious sunsets.
The rooms are on the large-side and usually kept spotlessly clean. The reception staff are really friendly so if you are unhappy with anything - or even if you just run out of coffee in your room - they will sort it out for you straight away. All rooms have air con, satellite TV, a full bathroom and a hair dryer. Plus the Wi-Fi is free and there’s a strong signal throughout the hotel, which is great as mobile reception can be a bit iffy.
Beaches Within Easy Reach
One big bonus is that the hotel gives guests direct access to the promenade, saving them the battle with ‘cardiac hill’. Gran Canaria is full of steep hills and guests staying at other hotels usually have to face a 10-15 minute slog or grab a taxi to the beach. At the Gloria Palace you just need to take the glass-fronted elevator (which the kids will love) down to the promenade and then you have two lovely white sand beaches within a two minute walk.
Puerto Rico is only five mins away and this is the main beach in the area so head here if you’re after watersports. Or there are plenty of sunbeds available at the hotel if you just want to relax by the pool. There’s a children’s pool next to the main pool area so the little ones can swim too and there’s even a kid’s club for the 4-12 year olds.
Dining and Entertainment
If you’ve gone all-inclusive, the food is in buffet form. An omelette is a great choice for breakfast as you can choose your own fillings. Don’t be afraid to ask for something if you have any allergies or intolerances.
There’s often entertainment in the evenings so you could be dining to the relaxing sounds of a violin player before heading to the large salon bar for some live music and dancing. There’s a big screen TV for sports events in the Lobby Piano Bar so you don’t need to miss the big match.
If you fancy something a little quieter, you can catch a ferry to nearby Puerto Morgan (Little Venice) for 10E. Here you can have a romantic meal overlooking the picturesque harbour.
