Zante, or Zakynthos as it’s known to locals, is an idyllic island located just off the west coast of Greece. With its lush green hills, dramatic coastline and endless sunny weather, it’s the perfect paradise for those in search of sun and sand, with a few bars and clubs scattered in between. Zante also lays claim to one of the most photographed beaches in the world – the beautiful Smuggler’s Cove or Navagio Beach, with an ancient shipwreck left abandoned on the shore.

Top Resorts and Hotels
As the third largest island in the Ionian Sea, there are plenty of towns and villages scattered all over Zante. The capital Zakynthos Town is a busy harbour city with loads of shops, restaurants and ferries for day trips out to the mainland.
Kalamaki is another popular spot, particularly for families. It’s right near the airport and has a long sandy beach that’s great for kids. A quiet resort, Kalamaki has managed to retain all of its traditional Greek charm.
You can also find some fabulous, secluded and sandy beaches in the resort of Alykanas if you fancy something with a bit more of an off-the-beaten-path feel.
Those looking to party should head south, to the popular resort of Laganas. Here the main street is overflowing with nightclubs, bars and the mandatory fast food outlets.
Agios Nikolaos Beach is found in the tourist-free town of Vasilikos and is reportedly the best on the island. There are also plenty of watersports available here if you’re looking for a bit of action.
Attractions and Things To Do
Whether you’re up for relaxing, partying, sightseeing or swimming, Zante has something for you. Navagio Beach is on the west coast and is a definite must-see. For a postcard worthy photo, head around to the Agios Georgios Gremon monastery which has a hidden viewing platform not many tourists know about.
Nature lovers should also visit Kalamaki and Laganas Beach, ideally around May and June, when the beautiful loggerhead turtles come to nest. These tiny creatures are highly endangered so be careful about disrupting their natural birthing process.
Kids will make a splash at the Zante Water Village, while party animals will be at home along the Golden Mile, the infamous strip of bars and clubs in Laganas.
