When people think of holidays to Turkey, they think of sun, sea and sand. And they certainly wouldn’t be wrong. But there is so much more to Turkey holidays than this. The bustling resort of Marmaris is incredibly popular with British holidaymakers and its beautiful mountainous surroundings make for the perfect place to escape the norm and explore.
‘But what is the best way to see the Marmaris mountains?’ I hear you ask. Read on to find out the many different ways you can get amongst this stunning scenery and experience it for yourself.
This is one of the most popular ways in which to experience what lies beyond your resort. Take to the mountain roads in open top jeeps and prepare for a fun-filled day of adrenaline-fuelled thrills. Take in the breath taking mountainous scenery and visit timeless villages, natural waterfalls and historical sites en route.
Sunset Jeep Safari
A slightly more chilled out version of the usual jeep safari. The end of the day is the most magical time to see the spectacular views from the mountains. So head out on a sunset jeep safari and witness a spectacular sight as the blazing sun disappears beyond the horizon. There’s also the opportunity for a twilight swim followed by an atmospheric beach BBQ.
If you want to head out on your own gentle hike, it is possible to do this yourself. There are a number of trails that are accessible from Marmaris which have basic maps at the start of them. You can follow picturesque footpaths through pine forests and admire the wildlife around you. Be sure to take advantage of a number of exceptional viewpoints across the bay. You could even catch a dolmuş to a nearby village and then enjoy the walk back.
If you’d rather be part of a group and venture further afield, it’s possible to book onto organised treks with the assistance of an experienced guide. There are treks available for the novice walker right up to the more experienced hiker; short distances and longer. Many of these travel between local villages and attractions, stopping for lunch and the chance to swim in between. A perfect way to get a taste of authentic Turkey.
Excursions and trips such as these are available to book via your in-resort rep, so be sure to speak with them on your next Turkey holiday. What has been your best experience around Marmaris? Let me know in the comments below.
