Some people like to lounge on the beach and top up their tan. Others live for the sheer thrill of rides, slides and zip lines. If you fall into the second category, the world-class water parks and amusement parks in Cancun will give you the adrenaline rush you need. Plus, there’s plenty to keep the family busy too. Here’s our top 10 best amusement and water parks in one of the world’s best holiday destinations:
1. Ventura Park
Ventura Park is one of the biggest amusement parks in Cancun. You’ll find it right on the waterfront and it’s made up of six ‘worlds’ for endless amounts of fun. Attractions include a waterpark, go-karting, zip-lining, virtual reality games, and even an exclusive beach club.
Ride the slides and splash around in the pool at the Wet’n Wild waterpark in Cancun. Take on the Twister and race down at speed, and feel the adrenaline rush on the Kamikaze. Head for the Double Space Bowl, where you can reach speeds of up to 50km/h as you slide down from 15m in the air. There’s also a dedicated kids’ area if you’re bringing small children with you, plus a lazy river if you want to take things slow.
Float down the Salty River and explore underground caves in this natural wonder that’s been turned into a family-friendly attraction. There’s plenty of water-based fun to be had, as well as some more unusual activities that’ll challenge all your senses, including a ‘Black Out’ tour where you have to rely on other senses apart from your vision. It’s challenging and orientated more towards grown-ups and older teenagers, but it’s a very different day out and one you’ll remember for a long time.
4.Underworld (part of Ventura Park)
If your kids can’t get enough of technology, they’ll love Underworld. This high-tech gaming centre features virtual reality games, giving you the chance to run and jump as if you were in a real battlefield. You’ll also find a laser maze where you can compete against each other, and a Star Wars Battle Pod where you can try out the latest video games.
A real jungle adventure awaits at Parque Xplor. You’ll discover seven zip-lines here, which send you through the treetops. There are also fascinating underground rivers and cenotes where you can take a dip. Plus, you could even take a 4×4 free-wheeling tour through the jungle. Unlimited food and non-alcoholic drinks are included in your ticket price, so you can refuel as often as you like.
Xcaret Park is one of the most famous amusement parks anywhere in Mexico; it’s half theme park, half eco-park. Here you’ll discover a world of wildlife, snorkelling, zip-lining, swimming, hiking, diving and so much more. Basically, it’s a 300-acre playground that’s ready and waiting to be explored, and you can climb the top-of-the-world tower if you want to see it all for yourself. If you’re taking the kids, there are games designed especially for the little ones.
7. Aaah!Ventura (part of Ventura Park)
Shout like Tarzan as you fly through the jungle on four side-by-side zip-lines. Take a ride on the 800-foot rollercoaster zip line. Xel-Há is an aquatic park just south of Cancun, offering a huge variety of water activities. This place is best known for its crystal-clear cenotes (sinkholes) and underground rivers, where you can try your hand at snorkelling and get up close with colourful tropical fish. Take it easy and drift down the lazy river.
9.Funworld (part of Ventura Park)
