Turkey’s riviera on the Mediterranean coast is justly popular with visitors from around the world, so we’ve asked the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office to tell us more about why Antalya and Belek are great holiday destinations.
With a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery, the city of Antalya is set high on cliffs and forms the centre of the Turkish riviera, one of the most stunning parts of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. A mecca for holidaymakers the region offers a variety of hotels and resorts complemented by a variety of attractions of activities, the large variety of which is typical to Turkey. There are world-class archaeological sites to explore (Perge, Side, Phaselis, Demre), cultural attractions to enjoy (Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, Golden Orange Film Festival), stunning natural wonders to appreciate (Manavgat and Kursunlu waterfalls, Saklikent Gorge) and trekking, wildlife and even skiing (in and around the Taurus mountains) to try.
Belek, a modern Turkish town on the Mediterranean coast in Antalya province, is renowned for its luxury resorts and world-class golf courses.
The sophisticated resort of Belek in Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast is the country’s most important golfing destination with 15 superb courses, including those designed by Sir Nick Faldo and Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie. A carefully planned resort designed to cater to the needs of golfers, Belek was recently named ‘Best Golf Destination’ at the Golf Journal Travel Awards and by Golf Magazine. Golf courses of note in Belek include Antalya Golf Club, Gloria Golf Club and Cornelia Golf Club – Sir Nick Faldo’s championship golf course.
The Turkish Open will run in November this year as an elite 78-man tournament on the European Tour, and be played on the Montgomerie-designed course at the Maxx Royal resort in Belek, Antalya.
Although a small town with a growing focus on golf, Belek is perfectly positioned to explore the nearby historical and architectural wonders.
