As part of our sustainability efforts, we’re committed to improving our fuel efficiency by 12% overall by 2020. We’re fully aware of our environmental impact as a business, so we’re striving to reduce our carbon emissions. We’re trying to minimise our climate impact, both at home, on holiday and during your flight. Here’s just another important step in our sustainability journey…
What we’ve done
From this April just gone, Thomas Cook Northern Europe is the first major tour operator in the Nordics to offset emissions from all air travel. That’s 1.5 million customers’ flights with Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia (and our other partner airlines) that are now CarbonNeutral® certified. To achieve this, we’re working with Natural Capital Partners, experts in delivering solutions for positive impact on the environment. We were thrilled to achieve zero net emissions in accordance with the CarbonNeutral Protocol, the global standard for carbon neutral programmes.
To offset our emissions, we’re financing projects around the world that generate renewable energy, as well as improving access to clean water in The Gambia and supporting a reforestation project in Spain. Our projects are independently verified to quality standards, such as Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the UN Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and the Gold Standard. These were developed by, among others, the World Wildlife Fund and supported by more than 80 environmental organisations. We’ll continue to keep you updated!
