Historical day trips around Praia da Rocha

The fantastic location of Praia da Rocha means that exploring the Algarve couldn't be any easier. Travel by car or by bus for day trips to discover the rich Portuguese history and relish in the area's traditional culture.

Just a 30 minute drive away is the rustic town of Silves. Here you can see the magnificent red stone structure and military towers of the Moorish castle. Visit the museums and 13th century cathedral to find Crusader tombs and walk through the cobbled streets that are delightfully decorated with mosaics.

Portimao is the nearest major town, less than 15 minutes away, and it's where you can view sights such as the beautiful, gold lined Colegio dos Jesuitas Church. Shop along the pedestrianised streets and spend the rest of the afternoon by the harbour where you can enjoy a delicious seafood meal.

Travel just over half an hour to reach the bustling area of Lagos. The traditional city sits on a cliff side overlooking a small marina and the ancient Forte da Ponta da Bandeira. Walk down to the famous Dona Ana Beach and hire a boat to explore the hidden caves that are carved into the rocky coastline.
