Temple of Olympian Zeus, Athens
This colossal structure was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods. The stand-out feature is how tall the temple’s columns are - they once reached a remarkable height of 17m. Between the columns and the road is Hadrian's Arch. When and why this arch was constructed is disputed, but look through it and you'll get a fantastic view of the arch framing the Parthenon on the Acropolis behind you. Be sure to take a photo before you leave.
Getting there:
While Hadrian’s Arch might look like the entrance, it’s actually opposite Zappeion Garden on Leof. Vasilissis Olgas. It has its own bus stop and is 500m from the Acropoli Metro station and 350m from the Zappeio tram stop.
