You can take a great road trip from Limassol and visit one of the villages in Cyprus' inland. With their brightly painted churches and terracotta-tiled houses, the villages in the Pitsilia district at the foothills of the brooding Troodos Mountains, are especially attractive.

In Limassol, there is a charming folk museum, plus the striking Limassol Castle, which was built in the 14th Century and which houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. Just out of town, the impressive collection of ruins known as the Temple of Kourion often stages Shakespearean plays amid the Greek and Roman remains.

The shorter and softer Caledonia Trail snakes along the banks of the Kryo Potamo stream to the Caledonian Falls, which is the only waterfall that you'll encounter on your group holiday to Cyprus. This proud, island nation has been at the crossroads of European culture for centuries and is strewn with remnants of its past civilisations, providing evidence for the land’s rich history.

You can visit the mighty Troodos Mountains, which form the island's rugged backbone. They offer stunning views across the island right to the sea where, as legend says, Aphrodite rose from the waves.

Dherinia

A large village in the south east of Cyprus, Dherinia is a good place to see the local way of life. There are several good viewpoints looking over Varusha (the former tourist centre) and an interesting museum.

A popular area in the south east of Cyprus, Paralimni features some beautiful beaches and includes the busy resort of Protaras. Though more tranquil than party-central Ayia Napa, it has a wide range of hotels, restaurants and bars.
