Summer holidays Menorca

Less developed than its larger neighbour Majorca, Menorca summer holidays have all the ingredients for a wonderful, relaxing holiday: unspoilt beaches, secluded coves, crystal clear waters, attractive scenery and plenty of sun. And if you like big celebrations in summertime, a summer holiday to Menorca is just for you.

Fiestas are a feature of Menorcan life and throughout the year, towns celebrate their patron saints’ days. Processions and fireworks, food and drink, music and dance, equestrian displays – they certainly know how to celebrate and if you’re lucky enough to catch one, you’re in for a treat.

In Menorca, fiesta time begins with a splash on the 23rd and 24th of June when the people of Ciutadella go out on the streets to honour Sant Juan. There are colourful processions, superb horse riding, firework displays and lots of merrymaking, all washed down with generous amounts of pomada, or gin with lemon.

On July 24th and 25th, it is the resort of Es Castell’s turn to celebrate. It is also when Mahon hosts its music festival, and you can listen to the wonderful organ in the church of Santa Maria. August is the time to visit Alaior to see the popular fiesta of Sant Llorenç and Ferreries, which both take place in the same month.
