Summer holidays Tenerife

As the largest Canary Island, Tenerife has a lively holiday scene, plus mountain scenery and tropical forests. With its dramatic black sand beaches, the island is a very popular destination for summer holidays.

If you visit Cristianos, go to Parque Las Águilas. This attraction has extensive tropical gardens containing wildlife and birds of prey, and you can also see spectacular shows of eagles flying wild.

For a pleasant, traffic-free view of Playa de las Américas, take the flower-decked Geranium Walk round the landscaped cliffs south of Puerto Colón and choose your spot on the central beaches.

There are undeveloped black-sand beaches at Callao Salvaje and Playa Paraiso and a stony beach at La Caleta. Most people take a towel and sunbathe on the rocks in front of the fish restaurants at La Caleta.

Adeje is a pleasant hillside town with narrow, tree-lined roads and outdoor cafés and bars. Just behind the town is an exciting track that leads past prickly pears and candelabra cacti to Barranco del Infierno.

Puerto de Santiago resort is famous for its Camello Centre - dress up as a Bedouin and enjoy a camel safari across the hills from this camel farm at El Tanque.

Atogo, found on the southern tip of the island, is part of Santa Cruz province of Tenerife. It is located next to the airport.

This tranquil town on the coast of Tenerife is picturesque and quiet. It has a beautiful harbour and the local restaurants serve delicious sea food.
