Or San Mateo's diverting Museo Etnológico La Cantonera features a 300-year-old farmhouse which has been transformed into a museum. The museum documents the history of the island and has a great restaurant attached.

The biggest attraction of Gáldar, along the coast, is El Museo y Parque Arquelógico Cueva Pintada (Painted Cave Museum and Archaelogical Park), while beach lovers will adore the beautiful nearby cove at Sardina del Norte (and, yes, the sardines are great here too).

On the road to Artenara, you'll find the Caldera de Los Pinos de Gáldar, a huge volcanic crater. The lush valleys of Barranco de Agaete are full of banana, mango, papaya, and other subtropical plants. The village of Agaete is also home to many artists who sell their works in local galleries.
