Beach holidays Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the most easterly and most northerly of the Canaries. It is the sunniest and driest of the islands, and its beaches are among the best, with pale sand that was blown over from Saharan Africa.

Arrecife, for instance, is a great place for a Lanzarote beach holiday. The town’s excellent Del Reducto main beach forms a sandy sweep along the shoreline close to the town centre. It has been awarded an EU Blue Flag for cleanliness and water quality. There are some facilities on the beach, including toilets, showers, phones and wheelchair access and just across the road there are several bars and restaurants.

A great place for those of you who are into watersports, Playa de las Cucharas is a hub for a range of activities. The main beach is a long, sandy stretch with gardens, restaurants and also the main area for windsurfing and other watersports.

Playa Papagayo in Playa Blanca, with its beautiful, unspoilt sands, is considered among Spain’s best beaches. it remains undeveloped, despite being a popular haunt for sun-seeking day trippers. There are several other more secluded sandy bays to either side of Papagayo Point, including the favourite for nude sunbathing, Playa de Puerto Muelas.

Playa Blanca

A relative newcomer to the Lanzarote holiday map, Playa Blanca is getting everything right. Its template is very much the holiday resort of the future: no ugly high rises, wide, traffic-free avenues, pretty, landscaped public areas, and a lovely promenade.

Tias

One of the oldest and most important towns on Lanzarote, Tias has a fascinating history with settlements that date back to 1493. Though it overlooks the main resort of Puerto Del Carmen, it is often overlooked by tourists.

Uga

A stone’s throw from Timanfaya National Park, Uga is set in dramatic scenery. A cluster of white-washed houses, it is surrounded by palm trees and lava-covered hills.

Macher

This tiny hamlet is largely residential and as such almost completely untouched by tourism. It is only 4km from Puerto del Carmen.

Tahiche

Located in the centre of Lanzarote, parts of Tahiche have been literally carved into the lava fields that dominate the town. You can walk across lava flows and explore houses built into volcanic chambers.
