Family holidays Crete Periphery

Crete is the perfect getaway for a family holiday. It is the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands and one of the most popular Greek holiday destinations.

The largest and best beach is to the west, known simply as Sandy Beach. However, Pebble Beach, located to the east, is where you will find the harbour and a busy promenade lined with restaurants.

For a fun-filled day out for the kids, you can try one of several water parks on the island. You will find plenty to keep the family entertained at Limnoupolis Water Park in Chania – the park is packed full of water slides, swimming pools, climbing walls, playgrounds, shops and restaurants.

It is also worth hiring a car to drive south, exploring the ever-changing countryside and visiting some of the most important archaeological sites on Crete. Such a trip is guaranteed to be a great history lesson for the little ones!

You will find some of the best shopping around in Iraklion, a lively street market that offers great hand-crafted items. Sip a drink in one of the cafés set in a leafy square, or visit some of the most important collections of archaeological finds in all of Greece while the children explore the castle down by the marina.

Agios Nikolaos

A charming town in the east of Crete, Agios Nikolaos is famous for the large, picturesque lagoon in the centre of the city and its busy harbour. The city is also popular for its Blue Flag beaches.
